I saw that too about McWhalen beating up Adler in the X5 Manga. Luckily X was able to seperate the two defeating Duff in the process. But sadly Adler didn't survive since too much damage was put upon him from those large Ice Bricks.

I don't really see any irony. Mainly, it's justdifferent interpretations.
