—Wind Man, Mega Man & Bass database

Wind Man (ウインドマン Uindoman) is an air-themed Robot Master from Mega Man 6 who was originally created to work in agriculture, helping in the harvest. In the First Annual Robot Tournament, he was stolen and reprogrammed by Mr. X to help him in his plan to conquer the world.

With his Special Weapon, the Wind Storm, Wind Man can generate powerful winds that can reach speeds of about 200 m/s, and can use this to pull enemies, increasing the speed if damaged. Wind Man has jet engines in his feet that allow him to hover, move faster, and also to attack his opponent by moving above them to smash them with his weight.

Appearance[]

Wind Man is a humanoid robot with a black body and blue eyes. He has a tan-colored head, a white top, two orange fans with a white front end on each of his shoulders, a red armor with a green part on top, a white lining under the armor, an orange part on the bottom of his body, white left hand, an orange bracer on his left arm, an orange with a white end on his right arm, orange leg armors and red-white feet.

Personality[]

In keeping with his origins in East Asia, Wind Man is a skilled cook and martial artist, who enjoys watching old Kung Fu movies in his spare time. However, he is bad at riding bicycles, and has a strong dislike for traditional East Asian herbal medicines. He has been shown to have a strong rivalry with Air Man.

Appearances[]

Mega Man 6[]

Wind Man is one of the eight Robot Masters, and defeating him will reward Mega Man with Wind Storm.

Attack pattern[]

Wind Man has 3 attacks that he will use semi-randomly. His main attack is to try and suck Mega Man towards him to deal contact damage, at a strong enough speed that if Mega Man simply walks away, he will remain in place. Wind Man can be hurt while he's sucking, but with each hit he takes (even if he's under invincibility frames) the suck strength increases exponentially, and if hit too many times, it will become impossible to escape. Wind Man can also attack by shooting two propellers, one up and one down, to cross each other in a wavy sinus fashion. They travel fast enough that they only cross each other once before they leave the screen, and Mega Man can easily jump over them when they cross. Wind Man's last attack is also the only way he can move; he lifts himself off the ground with his jet engines and tries to land on top of where Mega Man was as he took off. While going through the air, he only moves in cardinal directions, and can be avoided even without sliding.

Weaknesses[]

Wind Man is weak to Centaur Flash and is defeated in 7 hits. The weapon only has 7 uses, so every shot needs to be timed correctly as to hit Wind Man after his invincibility frames from the previous attack expire. As with all bosses, Wind Man takes 3 damage from a fully-charged buster shot. He also takes 2 damage and knockback from a fully-charged Power Adaptor punch, though it will simply make him do another action.

Trivia[]

  • His real-life designer, Michael Leader, is North American, one of the first two non-Japanese persons to win a Mega Man character contest, the other in Mega Man 6 being Knight Man's designer.
  • Originally, a boss submission for Mega Man 2 retained the same name as the aforementioned Robot Master.
  • Air Man and Wind Man share a large number of traits: combat pattern (both attack with wind - Air Man in the form of the Air Shooter and Wind Man to push/pull opponents from him), stage design (both have creature-inspired enemies), and weapon (both take the form of tornadoes).
  • Air Man's rivalry with Wind Man is likely because Wind Man is technically a successor to Air Man.
  • Wind Man is believed to represent China. Within Taoist philosophy and worldview, it is believed that qi or life force is akin to flowing forms like the wind, and is studied in Chinese arts like its flow in the environment in feng shui (literally "wind water") and the study of breathing in qigong. The queue on his head and the raimen ("thunder pattern") meander on his head and belt could further support this.
  • Wind Man's and Mega Man's versions of Wind Storm don't match in their usage like other Robot Masters' weapons.
