The Wily Castle (ワイリー城) in Mega Man 4 appears after Mega Man defeats Dr. Cossack in his citadel and learns from Kalinka, who is brought to the scene by Proto Man, that her father was forced to work for Dr. Wily's plans. Wily shows up to yell at Proto Man for betraying him and then dares Mega Man to pursue him, running away to his Wily Castle.

After being defeated again, Dr. Wily retreats and sets the castle to self-destruct, though both him and Mega Man get away from Wily Castle just before it explodes.

Stages[]

Wily Stage 1[]

Stage 1

In the first stage, Mega Man enters through the inner water sanitation chambers of the castle. The stage is littered with Mets and is almost entirely populated by all the Met variants encountered across the game. This stage houses an underwater room lined with spikes, and features two rooms afterwards with Appearing Blocks, unique to this stage. However, as the player has many utilities for traversal, they can easily be scummed. The stage's boss is Metall Daddy, continuing the Met theme.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • ETank1 E-Tank: At the very last room, in plain sight. Located inside a little pool of water, guarded by a Metall Swim. However, the water is too shallow for the enemy to actually attack.

Wily Stage 2[]

Stage 2

The second stage takes place in the main hall of the castle. Being a pure combat stage, it brings back several enemies across the game to fight the player. In addition to being littered with spikes, the stage also has several paths within its rooms, each with their own traps or enemy setups. The stage's boss is Tako Trash.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • ETank1 E-Tank: After the Taketento room, this pickups rests up high on a platform on the right. Rush Jet or Balloon can reach this platform.
  • NESEddie Eddie: Shows up after the first Imorm + Garyoby room. The only thing in this room is Eddie, who will randomly provide a big health energy, a big weapon energy, a 1-UP, or an E-Tank. If the player doesn't like what they get and doesn't take it, they can re-enter the room to have Eddie provide the player another valuable pickup.

Wily Stage 3[]

Stage 3

This is a short stage that is mostly a vertical drop that features lots of goodies. At the bottom is a capsule leading to a room that contains a rematch against the eight Robot Masters.

The placements are:

  • Top left (Drill Man)
  • Center left (Bright Man)
  • Bottom left (Skull Man)
  • Bottom-center left (Dive Man)
  • Bottom-center right (Toad Man)
  • Top right (Pharaoh Man)
  • Center right (Ring Man)
  • Bottom right (Dust Man)

Once they are all disposed of, another capsule appears, leading to the stage's boss Wily Machine 4.

Wily Stage 4[]

Stage 4

The final stage of the game, even shorter than the previous, goes through the castle's underground basement, en route to the final battle with Dr. Wily. It's very linear and features no obstacles other than the Imorms coming from the ceiling, and they can be used for farming if need be, as the game's final boss, the Wily Capsule, is immune to the Mega Buster.

Surprisingly, there are no valuable pickups to speak of, not even regular pickups. Use the Imorms to farm off goodies if necessary.

Other media[]

Rockman 4 (manga)[]

After Mega Man defeats Dr. Cossack and Proto Man rescues Kalinka, Dr. Wily appears and runs to his research laboratory. Mega Man follows him, facing several robots inside before finding Dr. Wily.

Mega Man Gigamix[]

In the manga, Wily has a fortress similar to the Mega Man 4 Wily Castle named Wily City (ワイリーシティ). It is located in an skull-shaped island that is destroyed by a white alien robot.

Mega Man Archie Comics series[]

The castle was alluded to in issue 49, where it was revealed that Mr. X and his X Foundation had supplied Dr. Wily with the castle for his robotics research in exchange for using said research in an attempt to force humanity to realize their mistake of relying on robotics.
