"What are you bubbling over?"
—Venus, Mega Man & Bass database

Venus (ビーナス Bīnasu) is one of the first four Stardroids that Mega Man must fight in Mega Man V. He is a very aggressive Robot Master that walks sideways like a crab, unable to walk forward. His main weapon is the Bubble Bomb, a heavy bubble made of a soapy substance that explodes on contact.

Venus loves cleanliness and washes his head with shampoo every morning, despite the fact that he doesn't have hair. He also likes the Awa Dance Festival, and dislikes octopi. His weakness is the Photon Missile.

Venus is part of the first wave of four Stardroids, and defeating him rewards Mega Man with both his Bubble Bomb and Rush Coil.

Attack pattern[]

Venus spends most of the fight walking sideways in an attempt to collide with Mega Man and hurt him. However, when Mega Man shoots while Venus is walking, Venus will jump forward. He will either do a very high jump, or a shorter but longer jump, and this actually determines how he attacks. When Venus does a high jump, he shoots a small bubble at the apex of his jump. This small bubble homes in Mega Man's position very slowly, but it can be shot down. When Venus does a long jump, he shoots a bigger bubble, called the Bubble Bomb, at the apex of his jump. This bubble remains stationary in the air where Venus fired it, but it will actually explode if it is shot at a couple of times or stays in place for too long. It does a lot of damage, so Mega Man should avoid jumping directly into it. Every time Venus lands from a jump, he stands in place for a second before he goes back to walking sideways. When Venus loses half of his health, his small bubble attack becomes a bit more complex. When triggered to jump, he actually shoots one smaller bubble while standing before jumping, firing the one he usually does, and then firing a third one when he lands. He can only have up to 3 small homing bubbles onscreen, and won't shoot any more.

Weaknesses[]

Venus is weak to Photon Missile, which defeats him in 7 hits. For better results, it can be fired in mid-air so Venus jumps and falls in the trap by either running into it or being attacked by it when the missile accelerates, and then shooting another on the ground after Mega Man lands to make him fall on the trap again. It can also penetrate through him and destroy any Bubble Bomb on its way, though this is only if the Photon Missile is actually accelerating. Venus also has a secondary weakness to Break Dash, which does 2 damage but can only be used in the rematches. As with most bosses, Venus takes 3 damage from the Mega Arm.

Mega Man Gigamix[]

In the manga, the Stardroids are powerful space robots that are attacking Earth, destroying several robots in the process, Venus defeating Plant Man. Venus and Jupiter later attack Dr. Light's laboratory, fighting against the robots present at the time. At first they have the advantage over Light's robots and Shadow Man, but when Venus was going to attack Dr. Light and Dr. Wily, Duo appeared and destroyed him without effort.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

The Archie Comics depict Venus and the other Stardroids-as well as Sunstar-as the creations of Ra Moon, whose long millennia on Earth were spent preparing to "cultivate" the planet for the benefit of its "children".

Trivia[]

  • Venus is named after the planet Venus, which is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Being an aggressive robot, Venus doesn't seem to fit thematically with any of this, but the name of the goddess's Greek equivalent, Aphrodite, is derived from the word "aphros" (sea foam), which could tie into Venus's use of bubbles in both his stage and boss fight. He also uses shampoo, which may be derived from Venus's beauty part.
  • Venus' crab-like appearance is owed to the fact that the planet Venus routinely intersects with the constellation Cancer, which is a crab.
  • Venus is the only Stardroid to have green eyes in the official artwork.
  • Venus looks similar to Toad Man from Mega Man 4.
  • Though he is yellow in his Mega Man V artwork, on the North American boxart for the game, he is green, and his red "V" stripes are a light shade of green rather than red, a possible nod to his Toad Man-esque appearance.
