"Hahahah! Destroy, destroy, destroy! Hahahah! Look at me, look at me! I'm king of the mountain!"
―Vanishing Gungaroo, Mega Man X7

Vanishing Gungaroo, known in Japan as Vanishing Gangarun[1] (バニシング・ガンガルン Banishingu Gangarun), is a kangaroo-based Reploid from Mega Man X7 and member of the Red Alert Maverick hunting organization.

History[]

Gungaroo was a bounty hunter who was one of the main fighters in the vigilante group Red Alert. Gungaroo's Reploid brain was programmed with the intellect of a child, so he feels most comfortable cradled in the cockpit of his humongous kangaroo Ride Armor. Gungaroo's comrades are happy to have him around, but they try to stay out of his way during missions.[2]

Eventually, the Professor came into contact with Red Alert and used DNA data to greatly enhance the strength of its members, Gungaroo included. However, this also made him subservient to the will of the Professor. After Red Alert and the Maverick Hunters went to war against each other, Gungaroo holed up in an underground tunnel system converted for heavy weapons storage.[2] Gungaroo was found by the Hunters and destroyed in an epic battle, and not even his massive Ride Armor was able to save him.

Characteristics[]

Vanishing Gungaroo is a Reploid of diminutive stature and with the appearance of a kangaroo. His armor is predominantly pink, though his face and ears are yellow. His fists are designed to resemble boxing gloves, while his head resembles boxing headgear. He is also in possession of a larger kangaroo-style Ride Armor with a cockpit in the belly, meant to evoke the location of a marsupial pouch. It is a Kangaroo Ride (カンガルーライド) modeled after a mother kangaroo and designed for boxing competitions.[3]

As can be inferred from X, Zero, and Axl's interactions with Vanishing Gungaroo, his personality is that of a manchild, although he takes offense at his being considered a child. He took great pride in the enhancements he had received from "the Professor" and thought himself to be stronger than Axl because of them. He also had a love for wanton destruction and senseless fun. Among the Red Alert members, he had a strong sense of rivalry toward Axl as young as him. The other members of the group acknowledge and respect his solid abilities, such as his martial arts skills that make use of his light body, and his piloting skills that allow him to ride a very powerful Ride Armor.[3][4]

Strategy[]

Vanishing Gungaroo begins the battle in his signature Kangaroo Ride. Fortunately, the player can also bring a Ride Armor into the battle by leaving one dormant in the center of the room before the battle is triggered. His Kangaroo Ride has half a health meter before his own. Once Gungaroo's Ride Armor is destroyed, the player can continue to use their Ride Armor against him on foot; however, most Ride Armor attacks miss Gungaroo due to his size and speed.

Gungaroo can be a tricky opponent as he is very quick and constantly dodging. Use his own strategy against him; perform hit and run attacks, and keep a good amount of space between him to avoid surprise close ranged attacks. His weaknesses, Wind Cutter and Souenbu, stun him briefly. X's Charge Shot inflicts a decent amount of damage, making short work of Gungaroo and his Ride Armor.

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 One-Two-Three, One-Two-Upper, and Vanishing Upper appear to be switched in official sources; One-Two-Three is described as three uppercuts and One-Two-Upper as a dash punch into an uppercut.
  2. The game often cuts out the "Kick" part of this shout. It is possible to still hear it if Hunters are switched at the moment before he is about to land, or if there is a lag.
