Sword (ソード Sōdo) is a Battle Chip that appeared in all games from the Mega Man Battle Network series. They also appeared with a few differences as Battle Cards in the MegaMan Star Force series.

In Mega Man Battle Network 4 and 5, Sword-type Battle Chips can be sacrificed to use Proto Soul.

Custom Sword (カスタムソード Kasutamu Sōdo, "CustSwrd") hits a 2-panel deep and 3-panel wide area similar to the Life Sword program advance. However, its power depends on how much the Custom Gauge is filled, starting from 10 and maxing out at 256 shortly before the Gauge completely fills. Once the Gauge is filled the sword's power drops to 0. Since BN3 the Cust Sword will not work with chips that increase power.

Variable Sword (バリアブルソード Bariaburu Sōdo, "VarSwrd") is a recurring rare sword in the games. At first use, it appears to simply be a Sword with doubled attack strength, but if the player inputs certain command combinations while holding down the A button, its range can change.

Like its predecessor, its range can change depending on the command input while holding down the A button, but if the player fails to input a valid command in time, its range is similar to that of the Sword battle chip.
