Sword (ソード Sōdo?) is a Battle Chip that appeared in all games from the Mega Man Battle Network series. They also appeared with a few differences as Battle Cards in the MegaMan Star Force series.

In Mega Man Battle Network 4 and 5, Sword-type Battle Chips can be sacrificed to use Proto Soul.

Sword, known as Cyber Sword in the MegaMan NT Warrior anime, is a standard Battle Chip that is available from the beginning in the very first folder in each game. They can be found in the net and bought in shops, or dropped by Swordies. Sword deals 80 non-elemental Sword-attributed damage, hitting the square immediately in front of the player.

Wide Sword (ワイドソード Waido Sōdo?, "WideSwrd") is a sword Battle Chip that hits one column ahead and damages the entire column if the player is in the center. It appears in the first folder of most games.

Cust Sword

CustSwrd

Custom Sword (カスタムソード Kasutamu Sōdo?, "CustSwrd") hits a 2-panel deep and 3-panel wide area similar to the Life Sword program advance. However, its power depends on how much the Custom Gauge is filled, starting from 10 and maxing out at 256 shortly before the Gauge completely fills. Once the Gauge is filled the sword's power drops to 0. Since BN3 the Cust Sword will not work with chips that increase power.

Variable Sword

Variable Sword (バリアブルソード Bariaburu Sōdo?, "VarSwrd") is a recurring rare sword in the games. At first use, it appears to simply be a Sword with doubled attack strength, but if the player inputs certain command combinations while holding down the A button, its range can change.

  2. ↑, →, ↓: Wide Sword (3 panels wide)
  3. ←, ↓+←, ↓, ↓+→, →: Fighter Sword (3 panels deep)

  5. ←, B, →, B: 3-panel wide Sonic Boom. In BN2 and BN3, this fires 3 times, while it only fires once in BN4 onwards.
  6. B, B, ←, ↓, ↑: 4 3-panel wide Sonic Booms, each one imbued with a different element: Fire, Aqua, Elec, then Wood. BN3 exclusive.

Neo Variable (ネオバリアブル Neo Bariaburu?) is a powered-up version of Variable Sword, introduced in BN4 as a Mega Chip. Like its predecessor, its range can change depending on the command input while holding down the A button, but if the player fails to input a valid command in time, its range is similar to that of the Sword battle chip.

This is particularly effective for enemies like Protoman.EXE who regularly steps into the player's area to perform Wide Sword, and in multiplayer battles, effective against Proto Soul users.

Sword Mode (ソードモード?) is a Battle Chip from Rockman.EXE 4.5 Real Operation that allows a NetNavi to use Long Sword several times. It can also be used in Mega Man Battle Network 4 and 5 with a Battle Chip Gate.
