Steephinx, known (roughly) as "Dasmanx" (ダスマンクス Dasumankusu) in Japan, is a Mechaniloid mid-boss from Mega Man ZX resembling a winged chimera. It appears in a secret part of Area I, the confinement facility. It originally belonged to a wealthy individual, but a month after purchase it stopped functioning and was thrown away. It has three sets of logical circuits and its parts can operate independently.

Attacks[]

Steephinx attacks using split waves likes its other variants, but can also attack using missiles, and on lower HP, can detach its tail to attack.

  • Sky Dive (スカイ・ダイブ) - Steephinx ascends to the top of the screen, and then drops downwards to the opposite bottom corner of the battle field in an attempt to pounce on the Mega Man, regardless of if it succeeds or not, Steephinx ascends upwards offscreen.
  • Sky Love (スカイ・ラヴ) - Steephinx descends and dashes forwards. As Steephinx reaches the opposite end of the screen (and goes offscreen), it ascends a bit.
  • Shout Wave (シャウト・ウェイブ) - Steephinx shoots three blue crescent shaped beams from a high position, when they reach the end of the screen, the beams turn purple and split into two crescent projectiles that move diagonally in the opposite direction. The crescents that hit the floor will ricochet before dispersing.
  • Breed Babe (ブリード・ベイヴ) - Steephix's tail launches up to three homing missiles, these can be destroyed by the Mega Man's attacks.
  • Snake Alive (スネイク・アライヴ) - Steephinx detaches its snake shaped tail, which crawls on the ground. If it touches the Mega Man, it will constrict them. Mashing buttons will break the Mega Man free and cause the snake to explode. Otherwise, it will explode on its own shortly after binding the Mega Man. It will also explode after a few seconds wiggling on the floor, if it doesn't bind the Mega Man. Lastly, the snake can be destroyed by the Mega Man. Steephix will regrow its tail sometime after it is destroyed.

Other appearances[]

Steephinx appeared as Battle Memory in Rockman Xover.

Etymology[]

Its Japanese name is possibly a combination of Damascus steel (ダマスカス鋼) and sphinx (スフィンクス), while its English name is a combination of Steel and sphinx.
