The Split Heavens, known as Tenretsujin (天裂刃 "Heaven Rending Blade") in Japan, is an EX Skill from Mega Man Zero 3. It is a rising slash, that causes Zero to leap upwards with Z-Saber extended to slice enemies above, and can only be used on the ground. It can be made fire elemental if used with the Flame Chip. It is obtained by defeating Hanumachine R with an A or an S rank. With the normal Head, Light Body and Quick Foot chips equipped, Zero will perform this technique after the third saber slash by pressing up at the end of the combo. Timing is crucial with this maneuver, since it is possible to trigger the rise slash (the one where Zero stays grounded and moves his saber upwards) instead if it is enabled.

Use in Combat[]

Split Heavens is one of the more useful EX Skills in Mega Man Zero 3. It allows the player to attack enemies in the air for more damage than a single air slash and faster than charging up a charged slash. It's useful for hitting multiple enemies on the way up, and if an enemy is below, you can use Saber Smash afterwards. It's important to remember that holding the saber button will make Split Heavens reach higher.

It has a Hit priority of 4, meaning it can be used after many attacks, and is usually close to or the last hit of longer combos. In combos it's best followed up by a Rolling Slash or Saber Smash. With the chip combo mentioned above, it can make using Split Heavens after a Z-Saber combo much safer and more effective.

This EX Skill also appeared in the Rockman Zero manga, where it was misnamed as Retsutenjin (裂天刃).
