"I wanna see you sweat! I wanna see tears! Show me everything you've got! I love making guys like you into charcoal!"
—Sol Titanion, Mega Man Zero 4

Sol Titanion, known as Sol Titanian (ソル・ティターニャン Soru Titānyan) in Japan, is one of the Einherjar Eight Warriors in Mega Man Zero 4. Titanion is a Mutos Reploid based on the fairy queen Titania, resembling a butterfly. She controls the Artificial Sun, which has been modified to reduce Area Zero to desert.

History[]

Sol Titanion previously maintained the Artificial Sun, designed for weather control, with another Reploid of the same model. Her counterpart was destroyed by a squad dispatched by Dr. Weil, and Titanion's operation circuit was rendered useless. The squad responsible was turned to ash by Titanion soon thereafter, and since then she has joined Weil and destroys for the pure pleasure of it.

Titanion first appears alongside the rest of the Einherjar preparing for Operation Ragnarok, stating that she wants to be the one to light Zero's fire, prompting a snide remark from Popla Cocapetri. When Craft arrives, and after Fenri Lunaedge's response about the humans leaving Neo Arcadia for "better outside places", Titanion remarks that they must make Neo Arcadia much better by burning Area Zero.

Afterwards, Titanion occupies the Artificial Sun, which she has modified to overheat in an attempt to reduce Area Zero to an uninhabitable desert. Zero infiltrates the area to stop her. Titanion speaks like Japanese Kogal, and she gleefully battles him, but is defeated.

Titanion is revived by Dr. Weil and to fight Zero again within Ragnarok, continuing to taunt Zero with the incineration of his friends, only to lose again.

Strategy[]

The fight against Titanion takes place in a room with no walls; in addition, it is filled with strong sunlight in which if Zero stays in for too long, he takes severe damage. At first encounter, the sunlight's dense can be lowered depending on which generators are destroyed during the mission. At the second encounter in the teleporting hatches, the sunlight functions normally (thus, more dense compared to the first encounter).

Attack Description Notes
Flame Fan (フレイムファン)
  • (Green) (フレイムファン(グリーン)) - Launches two green razor fans travelling in a pattern.
  • (Red) (フレイムファン(レッド)) - Launches two pink razor fans travelling in a slightly different pattern than the two green ones.
These fans can be destroyed before or after Sol Titanion fires them. Destroying both of them early will cause Sol Titation to start her next attack.
Rising Mine (ライジングマイン) Zigzags upwards and downwards across the room until disappearing off the screen, whilst laying three landmines on the floor that cause contact damage and also explode after a few seconds, launching a spray of projectiles into the air. These mines can be destroyed. Both Rising Mine and Flame Tongue attacks can be cancelled by hitting Sol Titanion with an electric attack.
Flame Tongue (フレイムタング) Fires off a flamethrower from her mouth that repeatedly extends and retracts, while flying twice across the screen. If hit with an electric attack, the move will be cancelled.
EX Skill: Burning Meteor / Neo (バーニングミーティア/ネオ) Raises her hand and creates a small/large sphere (depends on the weather and mode, Burning Meteor Neo being the larger version) and launches it right at Zero, breaking into four/six (depends on the weather and mode) projectiles. The one with four projectiles bursts in a plus shape while the one with six projectiles bursts in a hexagon star shape.

Area: Artificial Sun
Mission: Halt the Sun
Zero's EX Skill: Burning Shot

Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works[]

She used to operate the artificial sun with another Reploid of the same model. Her counterpart was destroyed by a squad dispatched by Weil, and Titanion's operation circuit was rendered useless. The squad responsible was turned to ash by Titanion soon thereafter, and since then she destroys for the pure pleasure of it.

The wings, which symbolize her, seem to be emitted from flamethrowers built into her back. These are drawn in great detail here.

Other appearances[]

  • Sol Titanion reappears as an optional boss in Area N of Mega Man ZX. The player must have the Mega Man Zero 4 cartridge inserted into the Nintendo DS's Game Boy Advance slot for the battle to take place, or by activating the Zero 4 link in the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection re-release.

Etymology[]

  • Sol Titanion's first name comes from the Roman personification of the sun Sol, and her last name is derived from the fairy queen Titania from A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Notes[]

  1. This is a Japanese onomatopoeia, "bān" (バーン). It means "show", "burst", "burn", and others. Among these, "burn" is pronounced the same, but these meanings only refer to "sounds" and "states". Therefore, "bān" is basically not directly translated as "burn" in Japanese.
  2. This is Japanese teen slang, which can be rephrased as "Arieru?" (ありえる?). In this case, it means "Shinjirareru?" (信じられる?).
