Restricted Area, also known as Tomahawk Man's Stage (トマホークマンステージ), is a Western themed stage from Mega Man 6 that has Tomahawk Man as its boss.

Description[]

Taking place in a western base with buttes in the background, Mega Man starts the stage outside in the daytime (nighttime in the revisit). Overall, this is a big combat stage and only has a couple of gimmicks off the beaten path. Eventually, Mega Man goes underground and the architecture slowly changes from being natural to mechanized. Back up at the surface, a large sunset (sunrise in the revisit) can be seen, and this is where the paths briefly branch off. Going forward is the regular and shorter path, but there is a higher up ladder above the sun. Jet Adaptor is needed to reach it, leading to an upper path that features a gimmick unique to this stage: Lifts that move up and down thanks to boosters. They are far enough from each other to test Mega Man's use of Jet Adaptor, but there is a handsome reward at the end. Once the paths converge, Mega Man goes back underground. After fighting the second mid-boss, the paths split once again. The upper path is the regular path to take, and eventually leads back outside. The lower path can only be accessed with Jet Adaptor to cross the pit gaps, and it stays underground. At the last room of this path, a new gimmick is introduced: a single one-sided spike platform. Every time the safe side is touched, either from standing on it above or bonking your head below, the platform rotates in 180 degrees.

This is one of the stages were a Beat Plate can be acquired, and thus the stage's color palette changes upon revisiting.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • ETank1 E-Tank: In the starting outside area with the Coltons, the last breakable block secretly holds this pickup inside it. Use the Power Adaptor to break it.
  • NESEddie Eddie: In the transition room just before going outside to the sunset. The only thing in this room is Eddie, who will randomly provide a big health energy, a big weapon energy, a 1-UP, or an E-Tank. If the player doesn't like what they get and doesn't take it, they can re-enter the room to have Eddie provide the player another valuable pickup.
  • ETank1 E-Tank: On the upper path above the sunset, at the end of the lift section along with a big health pickup and a big weapon pickup. Jet Adaptor is needed to access it and to cross all the lift platforms.
  • EnergyBalancer Energy Balancer: If Mega Man takes the regular path after the second mid-boss, there will be a breakable block on the left wall while going upwards. Power Adaptor is needed to break it, but Mega Man has to be at the very edge of the platform or ladder in order to reach it. Upon getting inside, there is a dead end, but cued by his signature whistle, Proto Man shows up and drops off this item before leaving.
  • MM6PlateB Plate: After the second mid-boss, there will be two paths to take, both leading to their own boss doors: the upper path leads to the regular boss door and doesn't require anything. The lower path has wide pits that only Jet Adaptor can cross, yet it leads to a new boss door and thus rewards the letter upon defeating Tomahawk Man in this room.

Other media[]

In the Rockman 6 manga, Mega Man goes to America to stop Mr. X's robots in the local, getting in time to save a resisting robot from four Coltons. Mega Man destroys three of them and one escapes, leading him to Tomahawk Man's base. Mega Man faces Tomahawk Man in the entrance and is defeated, barely surviving the battle. After recovering, Rush reveals his new Power Adapter to Mega Man, and he finds an Energy Tank while testing it. He then makes use of the Jet and Power adaptors to easily pass by the base, finding Proto Man in the way and gaining the Energy Balancer. After recovering all his energy, he faces Tomahawk Man and manages to defeat him, freeing the area from his control and obtaining the first Beat Plate.

Trivia[]

  • This stage is similar to Napalm Man's, as they start outside with one kind of enemy, then go underground with the first underground room having one of the enemies from the start, continue underground a little more, go back outside, then soon go back underground, and fight the boss down there somewhere.
  • This stage may be based off the real world location Area 51, as it is a restricted fortress in the desert.
