"Better rust out than wear out."
—Neptune, Mega Man & Bass database

Neptune (ネプチューン Nepuchūn) is one of the first four Stardroids that Mega Man must fight in Mega Man V. He's a bulky, aquatic Robot Master with a half-human, half-fish appearance.

True to his fish-like design, he is a very good and fast swimmer, but he suffers from Athlete's foot while disliking fishing. He also seems to eat salty food more often than not. His weapon is Salt Water, a fluid with salt-like substances that can corrode metal. His weakness is the Spark Chaser.

Mega Man V[]

Neptune is part of the first wave of four Stardroids, and defeating him rewards Mega Man with Salt Water.

Attack pattern[]

Neptune can only move by jumping forward to the other side. He can either do short jumps that require a slide or higher jumps, so he'll reach the other side in about 3-4 jumps. Once there, Neptune then uses one of two attacks depending on Mega Man's distance from him. There's a chance that he may stop short if he lands on Mega Man. If Mega Man stays close to Neptune, he will throw a big blob of Salt Water forward in a short arc. When this blob hits the ground, it splits into 3 smaller drops that spread out in small arcs. This is very easily avoided by getting out of the way. If Mega Man is far away from Neptune, he will jump in place multiple times and shake the screen. This causes small droplets of water to fall from the ceiling in mass quantity. Mega Man can easily move away from them, but during the screen shake, he cannot slide (due to him getting bumped up constantly).

Weaknesses[]

Neptune is weak to Spark Chaser, which can defeat him in 7 hits and has no disadvantages due to hitting him multiple times. However, this weapon will only be available in the rematches at the Wily Star, due to Neptune being a first wave boss and Terra (the user of Spark Chaser) being the last Stardroid to fight before getting to the Wily Star. It takes him out in seven hits and hits him twice if it runs through him all three times that it moves. Neptune also has a secondary weakness to Photon Missile. As with most bosses, Neptune takes 3 damage from the Mega Arm.

In the manga Mega Man Gigamix, the Stardroids are powerful space robots that are attacking Earth, destroying several robots in the process. Neptune defeated Knight Man during his rampage,[1] but he was eventually destroyed in an outer space fight with Shadow Man, who forced him back down to Earth and caused him to burn up reentering the atmosphere.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

Neptune and the other Stardroids are the "offspring" of Ra Moon, who attempted to prepare the Earth for their arrival but was destroyed by Mega Man before it could accomplish its task.

Trivia[]

  • Neptune is an aquatic robot named after the planet Neptune, which is named after the Roman god of the sea of the same name. The latter namesake is the likely inspiration for his fish-like appearance.
    • Neptune's serial number is SRN-009 due to Pluto being inside Neptune's orbit at the time of the game's release.
  • Strangely enough, Neptune is part of the first 4 Stardroids, even though his namesake planet is part of the Gas Giants, where the second set of Stardroids (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto) make their appearances.
