―In-game text, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X

Necro Burst (ネクロバースト Nekuro Bāsuto) is a Shoulder-type laser weapon that Vile obtains by defeating Sting Chameleon and Launch Octopus in Mega Man Maverick Hunter X. This weapon is not actually a laser; instead, it produces a sphere of light centered at Vile’s location that covers the screen. The player can basically damage enemies anywhere on the screen with this. Necro Burst uses all of Vile's Weapon Energy, which also means it requires the meter to be full in order to be used at all. Damage is considerably high, naturally, considering its energy cost. This weapon will wipe out most minor enemies visible on the screen at the time that the player uses it. The Necro Burst can inflict multiple hits, so even if the enemy isn’t defeated immediately, it still takes damage for a second or two and might be destroyed after the fact.

While Necro Burst doesn't inflict as much damage to the bosses as it does to most enemies, this weapon is rather effective against Storm Eagle and Rangda Bangda.

Defeating Sting Chameleon and Launch Octopus will Vile not only be rewarded with Necro Burst, but he will also be rewarded with Popcorn Demon as well.

Etymology[]

  • Necro Burst carries the supernatural/undead theme naming of Vile's laser weapons, with "necro" being a prefix meaning "relating to death." It also refers to how the weapon is a full-screen blast.
