Lightning Web (ライトニングウェブ Raitoningu Webu) is the Special Weapon that X obtains from defeating Web Spider in Mega Man X4. This weapon is based on Web Spider's ability to create electric webs. When equipped with this weapon, X will fire an electrically-charged web that travels a preset distance before it opens up and stays in place, and acts like a wall for a short period of time - X can then use the Lightning Web to double-jump or wall-jump to reach new heights. Once the Lightning Web has been jumped or wall-jumped from, it will then disappear shortly thereafter. The only time when the Lightning Web can inflict damage to enemies is when it is still in projectile form before opening up. When charged, X fires a single Lightning Web which networks out to another eight, causing damage to multiple enemies. These webs cannot be climbed on, however.
This weapon is Split Mushroom's weakness and is also the weakness of Reaper Sigma's second form. When used against Split Mushroom, not only will Lightning Web stun him and inflict considerable damage against him, it will also cancel any Soul Body holograms he crates. If X attacks him with Lightning Web three times while his double is present, the clone will disappear. It is also possible to finish the fight with Mushroom even more quickly by firing a Lightning Web while he's on the wall, firing another as soon as he lands while it opens up as he falls and takes damage, and repeating the process.
