"Kekeke! The first lesson a gentleman must learn in refinement is... Intruders are to die without a fuss!"
―Devilbat Schilt, Mega Man Zero 3

Devilbat Schilt, known as Hellbat Schilt (ヘルバット・シルト Herubatto Shiruto) in Japan and Europe, is a boss in Mega Man Zero 3. He is a Mutos Reploid based on a vampire bat, and formerly the Right Thunder Judge (右雷審官 Urai Shinkan)[3] of the Eight Gentle Judges.

Characteristics[]

In his Judge form, Devilbat Schilt has a helmet with three horns that resemble thunders that flares out behind his back and a silvery white bodysuit with a cape. His Punishment form is a purple bat with giant ears and wings which can wrap around his body like a robe. He has two toes on each foot and no hands.

Schilt is an uppity gentleman obsessed with etiquette, with a pronounced his sadistic side. He respects good manners, and considers Zero a barbarian trying to defy Weil. He doesn't get along with Blazin' Flizard and Childre Inarabitta.[Citation needed]

History[]

Devilbat Schilt was formerly the Right Thunder Judge, participating in the Screaming Interrogation trials. However, after Dr. Weil remodeled him, he became one of his enforcers in the Weil Numbers.

Schilt was stationed at the Weapons Repair Factory, where he oversaw the repairs of Neo Arcadia's weapons and even Reploid and Mechaniloid soldiers. When Zero came to destroy the factory, Schilt engaged him in combat and was destroyed.

Devilbat Schilt returned in Weil's Research Laboratory for a rematch, again calling him a barbarian.

Strategy[]

Schilt regularly vanishes to defend himself, and attacks by releasing several miniature versions of himself from his armored cape, using sound waves, releasing electric spheres, and if the player has Rank A or S, he will use Laser Creeper, where he shoots three electric beams that hit the ground and send electric balls running through the floor and walls. If hit with a charged Recoil Rod, he will be knocked back.

Defeating him will give the player the Thunder Body Chip, and if the player has rank A or S, the Saber Smash ability.

During the battle, Schilt teleports randomly to another location of the room.

Attack Description Notes
Bat Shower Schilt summons a swarm of tiny versions of himself that fly off the screen whilst flying at Zero.
Thunder Reverb Schilt lands on the floor then fires four electric orbs that bounce off the wall once before disappearing.
Echo Wave Schilt reveals all his wings, sending electric projectiles bouncing around the room.
EX Skill: Laser Creeper (レーザークリーパー) Schilt hangs from the ceiling and teleports around to one of three places at random, firing three electric beams from his ears that turn into three energy balls that crawl across the room. He will teleport to avoid Zero while attacking. He will recoil and take more damage than usual if attacked with a charged Ice attack.

Etymology[]

  • Devilbat/Hellbat Schilt's first name is a portmanteau of "devil/hell" and "bat", while his second name is derived from the German word "schild" meaning shield, likely referring to his cape-like wings.

Trivia[]

  • Devilbat Schilt's design resembles of Phantom's abandoned Armed Phenomenon's concept art. The developers probably inspired by this art to create Schilt due to that form goes unused after Phantom's unexpected death in the first game, leaving the form's concept unused in second game, but this is unconfirmed.
