This page is about the Robot Master Heat Man. To find information on his NetNavi counterpart, see HeatMan.EXE.
"Does Fire Man complain about how hot he is? Because I'm supposed to be a direct upgrade on his design, and you'd think heat resistance would be a part of that... I don't even want to move... "
―Heat Man, Mega Man (Archie Comics)

Heat Man (ヒートマン Hītoman) is a combat Robot Master from Mega Man 2 created by Dr. Wily based on Fire Man's design. His body has a box-like shape which resembles a Zippo lighter, with a lid that Heat Man can use to retract his head into for additional protection, but it can sometimes close down onto him unintentionally. Heat Man is designed to be highly resistant to sources of heat, including fire and magma, and has a dial in his back that regulates the power of his flames, which few are aware of.

His Special Weapon is the Atomic Fire, a heat-based weapon powered by highly compressed nuclear energy, which can be charged to produce bursts of fire at temperatures of up to 12,000 degrees Celsius (21,632 degrees Fahrenheit). He can also spit fire from his mouth and project enormous fire blasts from his hands. Heat Man's favorite attack is to first surround himself in flames for protection, making him invulnerable for a short time, before charging at his opponents at high speed from across the arena, causing major damage to his foes by crashing into them.

Appearance[]

Heat Man is an average humanoid with green eyes and yellow eyelids. He has a black body, a yellow box-like armor with a green gem on the front center, a red helmet with a yellow vertical line on top, red pauldrons, red hands and red boots with yellow part on top.

Personality[]

Whilst Heat Man lacks enthusiasm for his line of work, he is carefree and happy to work at his own pace in doing so. He enjoys summer barbeques, but has a dislike of water (particularly from his weakness, the Bubble Lead) and cold things, such as ice cream.

Video game appearances[]

Mega Man 2[]

Heat Man is one of the 8 Robot Masters created by Dr. Wily to combat Mega Man. Defeating him will grant the player his Atomic Fire weapon.

Attack pattern[]

Heat Man is one of the easiest bosses in the game. If left alone, he stands still and can throw a trio of three fireballs (this being his variation of the Atomic Fire), each in slightly different trajectories, and they will temporarily erupt into small flames upon touching the ground. The strength he throws them is based on player proximity. To dodge, the player must do a short hop over the low one at far range, or simply walk away if they are close to Heat Man. When Heat Man gets hit, he ignites himself in flames, making himself temporarily invincible. After a short time, he will charge forward in an atomic burst, doing a ton of damage. He stops where the player was and returns to normal. The timing that he charges is variable, so it's a matter of reacting to his animations in order to dodge it.

In The Wily Wars, Heat Man's Atomic Fire projectiles are all thrown at the same arc, though they spread out slightly from each other. His charging attack is also a little slower.

Weaknesses[]

Heat Man is weak to Bubble Lead, which kills him in 3/5 hits. The weapon's grounded nature will also guarantee hits if aimed in his general direction. Heat Man also has a bunch of secondary weaknesses: the Mega Buster, Air Shooter, and Quick Boomerang.

It also should be noted that Heat Man will heal himself completely if any type of Atomic Fire is shot at him when he's idling. He will also get healed completely by Crash Bomb in this same case, though a bug can also be found using this weapon. If shot at him when he's dashing, the explosion will bug him out and cause him to change directions really quickly until he smacks into a wall, in which he will eventually return to normal.

Mega Man 3[]

The second Doc Robot in Shadow Man's stage copies Heat Man's moves, and before the battle, Heat Man has a cameo appearance as program data copied by Doc Robot. This Doc Robot is weak against Top Spin and Shadow Blade.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge[]

Heat Man is part of the second wave of 4 Robot Masters, all of which come from Mega Man 2. However, the second wave do not have their own stages, but are part of a mini-gauntlet fought via teleport systems in the Wily Castle.

Attack Pattern[]

Heat Man here is much more difficult and tedious, mainly because he no longer takes 2 damage from the Mega Buster. The Atomic Fires he throws now all fly at the same arc and only slightly spread out from each other. He also does not throw them relative to the player's position, but rather chooses between close throws, medium throws, and far throws. As the player cannot slide, these are extremely tough to anticipate where they will go. Heat Man's charging attack is mostly the same, though he will always be able to use one Atomic Fire at least once before he gets ready for another charge. It is actually possible to his Heat Man twice before he becomes invincible, though the timing window for the second hit is very strict. Defeating him rewards the player with a big health pickup.

Weaknesses[]

Heat Man is once again weak to Bubble Lead, which will destroy him in 5 hits. He also has a semi-weakness to Quick Boomerang, which does 2 damage and can at least serve as a replacement to the Mega Buster.

Mega Man: The Power Battle[]

Heat Man is one of the six bosses from the "Mega Man 1~2" course.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters[]

"Heat Man will try to do the Bodily Crash if you go near him. Watch out! There can be one weapon that extinguishes fire. Find it, and you'll win!"
—Dr. Light

Heat Man is one of the six bosses from the "Search for Wily!" course.

Super Adventure Rockman[]

Heat Man and other fifteen robots are rebuilt by Ra Moon in the Lanfront Ruins, and Heat Man is one of the second bosses from the game. After Metal Man's defeat, the player must decide if Mega Man will proceed by a river or a mountain, being the only choice to affect a boss encounter. Choosing the river will lead to a battle against Bubble Man, and the mountain to Heat Man. If the player loses against Heat Man, the defeated Mega Man falls to the ground as Heat Man laughs triumphantly- although he ends up being interrupted partway through by his lid falling on his head. Mega Man is then saved by Guts Man, and Mega Man can battle Heat Man again.

In the mountain path, Mega Man will meet Guts Man before fighting against Heat Man. Guts Man says he found Bubble Man disabled (hinted to have been defeated by Proto Man) and took his Bubble Lead for Mega Man, which is Heat Man's weakness and is used to defeat him. If Mega Man chooses the river, Guts Man will instead appear after Bubble Man's defeat to give the Atomic Fire, which he took from a disabled Heat Man.

Rockman Strategy[]

Heat Man appeared as an enemy in Rockman Strategy, and could also be recruited to the player's team. He first appears in the Caldera in Indonesia, where he and Napalm Man are placed to aid Leo. He later returns as one of Apollo's support Robot Masters, the other being Knight Man

Other appearances[]

  • Heat Man is a boss in the Tiger Electronics Mega Man 2 handheld.
  • Heat Man has a cameo appearance in Mega Man 7. He, along with other Robot Masters from the previous Mega Man games can be seen in the background of the Robot Museum. Also, a portion of the background music that plays in the Robot Museum is a remix of the music that plays in his stage in Mega Man 2, the other two portions being Guts Man and Snake Man.
  • Heat Man appears in the CD database from Mega Man & Bass.
  • Heat Man would appear in the cancelled game Mega Man Universe.
  • Heat Man appeared as an event unit in Super Robot Wars X-Ω.
  • Heat Man appeared alongside Flash Man in an event Wyrmprint from Dragalia Lost.

Mega Man (Ruby-Spears)[]

"I'll get him."
―Heat Man, Mega Man (cartoon)
Heattman

Heat Man from the Mega Man animated series.

Heat Man appears in the episode Bro Bots from the Mega Man animated, where he works with Elec Man and Needle Man. The three attack the city's museum and are defeated by Mega Man and Proto Man, being retrieved by Dr. Wily. They later appear in Wily's hideout and attack Mega Man, but are paralyzed by him. The only attack Heat Man used in the series was his ability to spit fire.

Captain N: The Game Master[]

Heat Man appeared in Episode 20 of the cartoon Captain N: The Game Master, where he plays football against the main characters. Heat Man is taller (at least in terms of proportions), his main color is red and he has a blaster on one hand. He also looks much more metallic and has a picture of a flame on his armor.

Mega Man Megamix[]

HeatMegamix

Heat Man in Mega Man Megamix.

In the manga Mega Man Megamix, Heat Man appears in the story "Orders to Destroy R", where he, Crash Man and Metal Man appeared to help Air Man when he was outnumbered by Dr. Light's robots. When Mega Man went after Wily using Item-2, Heat Man asked Crash Man to give him Crash Bombs, which he consumed to use as boosts to pursue Mega Man by air, fighting against him along the way. Near Wily's castle, Bubble Man appeared in the sea below and attacks Mega Man. During the chase, Mega Man managed to kick Heat Man into the water, damaging him because of the sudden temperature change and heating the water near Bubble Man, who had to escape to avoid the heat, making them unable to continue the pursuit.

In the original version of the story from Rockman Remix, Heat Man only appeared in two panels, the first showing that he was defeated by Elec Man in Wily's base, and the second in the last panel with Wily and the other seven robots.

Mega Man (Dreamwave Productions)[]

Heat Man is the only Robot Master from the games to appear prominently in the comic. He caused mayhem in an airport and attacked Dr. Light's house.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

Heat Man is one of the eight Robot Masters created by Dr. Wily to fight against Mega Man in The Return of Dr. Wily.

Rockman World[]

Heat Man, alongside Bubble Man, Quick Man, and Flash Man, simultaneously attack Mega Man inside Dr. Wily's base. At first it seems they will be victorious, but Mega Man defeats Flash Man and takes his Time Stopper, using it to stop the other three robots, easily destroying them.

Other appearances[]

Heat Man appears briefly in three panels from Rockman: Yomigaeru Blues as a member of the Wily Patrol. Heat Man also appeared in the Mega Man 2 novel and the manga Rockman: Dr. Wily no Inbou, Rockman wo Tsukutta Otokotachi - Rockman Tanjou Densetsu, Rockman 4Koma Dai Koushin, and Rock'n Game Boy.

MMPBmys-Heat

Heat Man's unused sprites from Mega Man: The Power Battle

  • In Mega Man: The Power Battle, unused sprites show animations of Heat Man lighting and smoking a cigarette, Heat Man having his lid shut on him, and him being frozen solid (by the Ice Slasher).[1] Also, the music that plays when fighting Heat Man in this game is a remix of Gyro Man's theme.
    • The unused sprites may have been the cause of a gimmick in community images and fanart, where Heat Man is usually depicted with a cigarette.
  • The maximum temperature Heat Man can reach, 12000 degrees Celsius, is higher than the Earth's core and the Sun's surface. Also, fire doesn't reach this temperature in reality, this heat being closer to plasma.
  • Graf Michael Sepperin, a character the doujin soft series, Rosenkreuzstilette, uses a similar attack pattern to Heat Man.
  • If Crash Bomber is used on Heat Man during his flame tackle state, the A.I. will shift back and forth in the spot of the explosion and repeat the tackle again while regaining health.
  • It is actually possible to deal damage to Heat Man using the Crash Bomber; however, it has to be used at the exact time Heat Man launches his fire. The damage dealt by the weapon is rather minimal.
  • Like with Air Man, a glitch to teleport Mega Man to a glitchy Dr. Wily Stage can be performed by using a particular weapon while doing a certain action. With Heat Man, Mega Man, if he has the Bubble Lead and jumps against the boss gate while getting hit by the Atomic Fire, will be sent to a glitched version of Wily Stage 1. However, the "stage" can't be cleared, since Mega Man did not beat Heat Man to get the needed Item-1, forcing the player to reset the game.

Preview screenshot of Mega Man's Soccer with Heat Man.

  • Heat Man was planned to appear in Mega Man's Soccer, but was removed from the game before its release.[3]
  • Ironically, in the Archie Comic's Mega Man series in issue 10, Heat Man is extremely heat-intolerant and Mega Man finds him complaining about being hot (as he's stationed in a geothermal plant filled with molten lava), stating that he doesn't even want to move.
    • However, when he re-appears in issue 14, he discovers the dial on his back (Which he explains is a heat regulator), and it is implied that it is directly connected to how heat-tolerant (or intolerant) he becomes.
  • Though Heat Man is based off the design of Fire Man, he may also share some similar tactics to another Light Number, Ice Man. They both have the same body structure and face design, their stage outline is much similar and their design both share a reference, with Ice Man based on a parka and Heat Man based on a Zippo lighter.
