The Genesis Unit, known as Mega World Corps (メガワールドぐんだん Mega Wārudo Gundan) in Japan, is a group formed by three Robot Masters created by Dr. Wily and based on characters from the Chinese novel Journey to the West. They appeared as bosses in the Wily Tower mode from Mega Man: The Wily Wars. According to Dr. Wily, similarly to the Mega Man Killers, they were created specifically to destroy Mega Man.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

The Genesis Unit first appeared in issue 20, where they were dispatched to act as the initial defense against Mega Man in the then-altered Chronos Institute.

They later made an appearance in the Worlds Collide arc, specifically in Sonic Universe Issue 52, where they, alongside Copy Robot, fought against Sonic, Tails, Mega Man, Proto Man, and Rush. Sonic, after hearing their name, also began regaining memories of the first Genesis Wave. After they were defeated, Mega Man expressed surprise that the Genesis Unit was present, as he had earlier destroyed them down to their IC chips. Sonic, however, suspected their "revival" dealt with the temporal imbalance caused by the Skull Egg Zone. They later return as part of the army of Robot Masters protecting the Wily Egg.

Mega Man Megamix[]

The Genesis Unit appeared in the side-story Mega Gandhara from Mega Man Megamix vol. 3, where Dr. Wily orders them to find and destroy Mega Man. However, they don't know where they can find Mega Man, and when they realize it, they don't remember the path to Dr. Wily's fortress to ask him. They decide to follow their mission and start searching Mega Man everywhere. Six months later, they are successful in finding him, but after the long search they forgot that they must also destroy him and leave. One year later they manage to return to Dr. Wily and report their mission, but Wily doesn't recognize them, forgetting the trio after their long absence.

They also have a cameo appearance near the end of Mega Man Gigamix.

Developer Comments
"We were told that the new theme was going to be the novel 'Journey to the West.' While drawing the boss characters, I tried to take the flavor of the theme and give it that Mega Man twist. I think this kind of blending can be pretty interesting when done right." - Keiji Inafune [1]

Trivia[]

The names Genesis Unit and Mega World Corps could be seen as a homage to Sega and its 16-bit console, the Sega Genesis (to which Mega Man: The Wily Wars was released on), which is also known as the Sega Mega Drive in both Japan and European countries.
