Flame Sword (フレイムソード,Fureimu Sōdo?) is the Special WeaponMega Man obtains by defeating Sword Man in Mega Man 8. Befitting its name, it is a close-ranged fire-based weapon, capable of igniting things that are highly flammable, such as the Thorn Vines in Search Man's stage. Flame Sword can be executed on the ground and in the air, and even underwater. It is especially useful on Search Man himself, as it can burn down the bushes he hides behind and prevent him from ever using his Homing Sniper.
Also notable, this weapon is the most effective special weapon for fighting the second form of Dr. Wily's Wily Machine.

The Flame Sword is used by Mega Man in the upcoming fighting game Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U as his Forward Air move. This attack involves Mega Man quickly summoning the Flame Sword to his hand in midair, and performing a downward swing with it in front of him, much like when the move is used in midair in Mega Man 8. This attack can burn opponents and hit multiple times.
