"In the world I have in mind, there is no place for idiots like you, Mega Man Model A! Your time's up, fool!"
―Aeolus, Mega Man ZX Advent

Aeolus (ヘリオス Heriosu, lit. "Helios") is a boss in Mega Man ZX Advent who is the Biomatch for Biometal Model H. He is one of the four rival Mega Men who seeks to empower Model W and win the Game of Destiny. He is fought in the Floating Ruins.

Appearance[]

Aeolus is a pale young man with long silver-green hair with a thick, pointed fringe covering one half of his face. He wears an archetypal Mega Man vest with a green color and coattails extending to his ankles, and has elegant pointed shoes and earrings on his earpieces. He is always seen holding a sword in a royal-looking scabbard.

Due to Aeolus' hairstyle, it is difficult to tell if he is a Humanoid or Reploid (since it covers his forehead where a red Reploid mark might be).

Personality[]

Aeolus is an arrogant and uppity narcissist. He is a neat freak and treats everyone with a prideful disdain, especially the inexperienced Model A Mega Man. He deems mankind foolish and cites this as the root cause of all conflict; thus, he plays the Game of Destiny to bring peace by ridding the Earth of whatever he deems ignorance.[1] Thetis is allegedly the only Mega Man who Aeolus can tolerate, as he despises Grey and Siarnaq for their incompleteness, Atlas for her stubborn obsession with conflict, and Ashe for her unrealistic optimism.[2] He also refuses to believe that he was manipulated by Master Albert, showing that he never accepts his mistakes.

Aeolus shares the uptight perfectionism of Model H's template, Sage Harpuia from the Mega Man Zero series, but with an extra selfish edge. In spite of this selfishness, he is touched by Model Z's sacrifice to let Vent/Aile escape, showing a softer side under his arrogance, or at least an appreciation for such poetic gestures.

History[]

Background[]

Little is known about Aeolus' past. He was approached by Prometheus and Pandora with Model H, and chose to join the Game of Destiny with plans to use Model W to rid the world of foolishness and imperfections.

Mega Man ZX Advent[]

Aeolus first appears with Siarnaq in the Tower of Verdure, after Grey/Ashe defeats Rospark the Floroid and witnesses a Model W absorb a Raider's soul. Grey/Ashe prepares to do battle, but the two apparently have more pressing issues to attend to, insulting the inexperienced Mega Man before leaving with the Model W.

ZXAHP

Aeolus and Siarnaq meet Mega Man Model A.

Aeolus is next faced the Floating Ruins, tending to a Model W that is disturbing the area's gravity. He reveals his plan to use Model W to rid the world of foolish people and end conflict, but he is defeated. Aeolus escapes with the Model W, but Model A copies his DNA data to use in A-Trans, which also unlocks a cipher that reveals how Master Albert chooses Mega Men.

After Grey/Ashe defeats the Pseudoroids in Ouroboros, Aeolus appears with the other Mega Men to interrupt their pursuit of Albert, planning to defeat Albert himself to take over Model W. Vent/Aile holds them off until Grey/Ashe can defeat Albert, resulting in the fall of Ouroboros. Model Z separates to immobilize the Biometals of Aeolus and the others, forcing them to fall with Ouroboros.

However, Aeolus survives. In the secret Expert Mode ending, Aeolus appears with Master Thomas alongside the other Mega Men. The significance of this has yet to be revealed, although he and the others appearing immediately after Thomas alludes to the Reploid immortality data and original human bodies implies that they were somehow connected to Thomas and Albert's plans involving the discarded data/bodies.

Attacks[]

Aeolus wields Model H to attack with dashes, blade projectiles, and electric spheres.

Attack Descripton Notes
Triple Slash Aeolus will perform a 3-slash combo, doing a slice, a slash, and another slice, the last one emitting a Sonic Boom that travels through the screen and blocks projectiles. In Expert Mode, Aeolus will emit two sonic booms instead, and they will travel across the screen faster.
Jump Cut Aeolus will jump forward and cut at the player character.
Dash Cut Aeolus will jump and do an air dash towards the player character and attack them with both sabers.
Plasma Cyclone V Aeolus' charge attack will fire two plasma cyclones that will travel in a V pattern in front of Aeolus. To evade this attack, simply dash through the opening between the cyclones. Only used against Grey.
Plasma Cyclone H Aeolus' charge attack will fire two plasma cyclones. One cyclone will fire in front of Aeolus in a horizontal path, and another one behind him. Only used against Ashe.
Plasma Bit Aeolus' desperation move will result in him dashing upwards and hovering above the ground, while summoning two electric objects. Evading this attack takes timing, and the player must time their dash correctly in order to avoid taking any damage or just use Chronoforce's time bomb technique to slow down time, making it easier to maneuver. If the player already defeated Queenbee, she can be used to stay away from the bits.

Etymology[]

Aeolus is the keeper of the winds from The Odyssey. His Japanese namesake, Helios, is the god of the Sun in Greek mythology. Helios is also an alternate name for Hyperion, which is a Moon of Saturn, and thus keeps with the naming theme shared by Pandora, Prometheus, Tethys, Atlas, and Siarnaq.

Trivia[]

  • Aeolus is the first villain in the Mega Man ZX series to carry a weapon outside of a transformation, though he is never seen using it.
  • Aeolus' Model H design is based on Harpuia, but with more of a sinister bat motif than a graceful bird motif. This could be viewed as a visual representation of the noble Model H being used for evil purposes.
  • In the "Prometheus & Pandora's Gossip Hell" on the Rockman ZX Advent Blog, Aeolus won first place in the rival Mega Man popularity poll.[3]
  • Aeolus in the Japanese version is the only one of the four enemy Mega Men to have his name share the same first letter as his Biometal (Helios and Model H), and is one of only two Mega Men in the ZX series to share the same first letter as their biometal (the other being Ashe and Model A).
