"Your neck is so tiny... I'll snap it with one chomp! Grrrrrrr!"
—Tretista Kelverian, Mega Man Zero 3

Tretista Kelverian (トレテスタ・ケルベリアン Toretesuta Keruberian) is a boss in Mega Man Zero 3. He is a Mutos Reploid designed after Cerberus, the three-headed hellhound. He is the Chief Judge of the Eight Gentle Judges, combining three independent thought circuits to reach fair judgements,[1] and also serves as the Dark Judge (冥闇審官 Meian Shinkan).[2][3]

Characteristics[]

Tretista Kelverian's Judge form is a tall humanoid with a cuboid head and a muscular body. In his Punishment form, he is blue and his arms each end in three claws and his head resembles a canine. His shoulders have two additional canine heads, giving him three heads like his namesake.

Because of his three thought circuits, Tretista was once the most fair and reasonable of the Eight Gentle Judges, serving as their Chief Judge. When Dr. Weil brainwashed him as one of the Weil Numbers, Tretista could not think properly. Instead, his aggressive traits were amplified, and he became violent and arrogant. He would completely lose himself in combat, failing to understand damage to his own body or even the demises of his enemies.

History[]

Tretista Kelverian was formerly the Chief Judge of the Eight Gentle Judges, implying he held great respect in the eyes of Neo Arcadia. However, when Dr. Weil returned, he brainwashed and remodeled the judges, turning Tretista into little more than an oversized guard dog.

When Zero went to investigate the giant elevator created by Neo Arcadia, he finds Tretista protecting it. They fight, and Zero comes out victorious. Zero then discovers the elevator is used to transport mass amounts of E-Crystals to be used as energy.

As with the other Judges, Tretista reappears in Weil's Research Laboratory, but is defeated again by Zero.

Strategy[]

Tretista attacks by separating the dogs attached to his shoulders, which then jump around the room, throwing a box and then dashing to destroy it, spitting vaporous energy balls across the floor, and bending a metal bar into a V shape and then tossing it like a boomerang. At A or S rank he will use his EX attack, where a large laser occasionally comes from his claw when he dashes to the box. Although not a weakness, Burst Shot is effective against him, as it can hit him multiple times.

Defeating him gives Zero the Absorber Body Chip and, if fought at A or S rank, the Gale Attack EX Skill.

Attacks[]

Hell Bouncers Hell Bouncers Damage: 4
Tretista detaches the heads on his shoulders, turning them into two hounds that will try and jump at Zero.

Both the hounds and Tretista himself can be damaged, but they share the invincibility after being hit.

Container Throw Container Throw Damage:
5 (normally)
Instant kill (in a corner)
Tretista grabs a giant crate and throws it at Zero.

If Zero is hit, the crate will break. Otherwise, Tretista will tackle the crate, destroying it.
The crate can be used as a platform.
If Tretista manages to drop a crate on Zero at a corner, it's an instant kill regardless of Zero's vitality.

Steel Pipe Throw Steel Pipe Throw Damage: 4
Tretista grabs a metal pipe, bends it into an L-shape, and throws it at Zero.

When he pipe returns, it flies back only half of the throw's range, and disappears.
If the pipe is attacked with the Buster Shot or a fully charged Recoil Rod, it will go back and hit Tretista instead.

Breath Gas Breath Gas Damage: 4
Tretista and his shoulder heads spit purple energy orbs that roll on the floor before disappearing.
Mega Stomping Mega Stomping Damage: 3
Tretista jumps at Zero's position, trying to inflict contact damage.
Laser Claw EX Skill: Laser Claw (レーザークロウ) Damage: 6
Tretista uses "Container Throw", except instead of tackling the crate, he pierces it with an energy sword.

Etymology[]

  • Tretesta (Tretista) comes from Italian tre (three) and testa (head); also, tritesta is Italian for three-headed. Keruberian (Kelverian) is a play of Kerberos (ケルベロス Keruberosu; also known as Cerberus in English). Therefore, his name literally means "Three-Headed Kerberos".

Trivia[]

Z3 Commercial Tretista

The destroyed Reploid in a Rockman Zero 3 commercial based on Tretista Kelverian.

  • The Rockman Zero 3 commercial has Zero defeating Tretista Kelverian, although he lacks the heads on the shoulders and has three rotary cannons in place of his claws, and a slightly different torso. Tretista collapsing in a heap was reported to be Keiji Inafune's idea, as he insisted with the third trailer that "there needs to be something that falls down".[4]
  • In the English-localized Mega Man Zero 3 instruction manual, Tretista is erroneously transliterated as "Tretesta Kerberion".
  • Tretista breaks the tradition of having two life bars as one of the eight main bosses in the Mega Man Zero series, having a third bar and surpassing the other Weil Numbers' health. This may be because he is the Chief Judge and has a higher status than others.
  • Tretista and Childre Inarabitta are the only members of Weil's Numbers that first appear to Zero already morphed in their "Punishment" forms. He is only seen in his "Judge" form before his battle in the boss rush.
  • Tretista's three heads having different thought systems for judgement could be a reference to the three judges of Hades Rhadamanthys, Eacus, and Minos.
