"Does it ring a bell on you?"
—Saturn, Mega Man & Bass database

Saturn (サターン Satān) is one of the second four Stardroids that Mega Man must fight in Mega Man V. Saturn has the ability to control time and space. Like his namesake planet, he has a large ring that he uses to initiate his Black Hole attack, which pulls his foes closer to him. He can also stop time, which he uses to attack his opponents with energy shots. He also attacks by throwing his ring and sliding.

Saturn is somewhat lazy and uses his Black Hole to bring others to him instead of going to them, which gives him a bad reputation. He loves to be among the first to own the newest, coolest things, which frequently leaves him short on spending money. He enjoys hula hoops and is a natural at it, but he lacks skill at playing video games. His weakness is the Electric Shock.

Mega Man V[]

Saturn is part of the second wave of four Stardroids, and defeating him rewards Mega Man with both his Black Hole and Rush Jet.

Saturn has 3 attacks he can do. His main attack is to throw his ring high in the air, in an arc towards the other side of the room. Although it will miss Mega Man, Saturn will slide forward to the other side in order to catch his ring. All Mega Man has to do is jump over Saturn when he slides. Saturn will do this ring throw + slide forever if he is not damaged. However, he will initiate one of his next two attacks if he does get hit. One of these is to use his ring to create a Black Hole inside, trying to suck Mega Man in for an attack. It can be avoided by sliding away from Saturn, though any projectiles sent towards him will get sucked into the Black Hole. Saturn's last attack is to jump forward, positioning himself dead center of the screen. One second later, he will stop time and attack by firing small shots all over the screen in a clockwise or counter-clockwise fashion. Saturn then continues his jump and lands in one of the corners. To dodge this orbital attack, Mega Man just has to stand underneath Saturn before he stops time, so every shot will miss Mega Man.

Weaknesses[]

Saturn is weak to Electric Shock, which defeats him in 5 hits, though with Electric Shock hitting twice with one attack, he can defeated with just 3 attacks if timed correctly. It can also cancel his Black Hole attack, but the player should be careful when trying to attack him with it as it is a close-range weapon. Saturn has a secondary weakness to Photon Missile, which does 2 damage. As with most bosses, Saturn takes 3 damage from the Mega Arm.

Mega Man Gigamix[]

In the manga Mega Man Gigamix, the Stardroids are powerful space robots that are attacking Earth, destroying several robots in the process, Saturn defeating Centaur Man and Charge Man. Saturn, Mercury and Uranus fight against Mega Man, Cut Man and Elec Man.[1] Saturn also transports Duo into outer space and kills him there. After having his eye torn out by Terra for his failure to destroy Mega Man, Saturn is later destroyed by Bass.[2]

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

Saturn and the other Stardroids are the "children" of Ra Moon, and learn of their creator's demise when Ra Moon contacts them following its defeat at Mega Man's hands.

Other appearances[]

Saturn appeared in Hitoshi Ariga's Rockman World 5 shorts, Akihiro Tomonaga's Rockman World 5 shorts, and is one of the robots in the Robot Museum in the Rockman & Forte manga.

Trivia[]

  • Saturn is named after the planet Saturn, which has rings of cosmic dust around it and is named after the Roman god of agriculture, Saturnus. The name of the god's Greek equivalent, Cronus, is sometimes mistaken for Chronos, the personification of time.
  • Saturn's like for the hula hoop is a joke about his rings.
  • Strangely, Saturn's rest position (the one he initially enters the fight in) appears to be on all fours despite the fact he is not an animal-based Stardroid. He also rarely stands during the fight, usually sliding, in the air, or in his rest position with the Black Hole deployed.
  • Saturn is the only Stardroid that resembles the planet he is named after.
