This page is about the original Elec Man. For others, see Elec Man (disambiguation).
"Do your worst, but I find it hard to believe that such a low-voltage robot like you can defeat me."
―Elec Man, Mega Man: Powered Up

Elec Man (エレキマン Erekiman) is a Robot Master from the original Mega Man. He was created by Dr. Light to control the voltage of nuclear power plants. At the time of his creation, Elec Man was often hailed as Dr. Light's greatest creation and boasts razor-sharp judgement, as well as a physical agility that would not be matched until the creation of Quick Man, who is in turn based on his design. His Special Weapon, the Thunder Beam, fires off devastating bolts of very high-voltage electrical energy in multiple directions, with sufficient power to go through multiple enemies with one shot and even break through solid rocks.

Physical appearance[]

Elec Man is an average height robot with blue eyes, gray eyelids and black, red and yellow armour. He sports a black helmet holding a yellow mask with a lightning bolt motif, his upper body is entirely red, covered by a black chest plate with a lightning bolt in the center and yellow cuffs around his wrists, and his lower body is black, holding yellow boots.

Personality[]

In terms of personality, Elec Man is conceited and egotistical, with something of a sadistic streak in him (which is especially present in Mega Man Powered Up), but is otherwise very responsible, smart and competent. In his spare time, he has taken up playing the electric guitar while singing. Fitting for his motif, he also despises products made of rubber.

Mega Man[]

In the first game, Dr. Wily reprogrammed Elec Man and Dr. Light's other industrial robots to help him conquer the world. Mega Man fights against Elec Man and defeats him.

Attack pattern[]

Elec Man’s room has 2 Guts Blocks on the left, though you will start the fight in the middle. Elec Man will run back and forth across the room at a high speed. He has 3 points where he will stop, and upon reaching those points he will raise his hands to shoot a powerful Thunder Beam forward. The attack has a big hitbox, does a whopping 10 damage, and can also hit Mega Man if he’s standing on the blocks. Elec Man also takes knockback from attacks, a trait shared with Cut Man, and can be interrupted from attacking if the player times their shot correctly. Shooting while he’s running will make him jump forwards or backwards, and shooting again will make him attack mid-air. He can also jump onto the blocks if he runs up against them. As such, Elec Man can obliterate blind players in seconds, but his knockback makes it easy to stop him from ever attacking.

In The Wily Wars, Elec Man's Thunder Beam has decreased in size so that a grounded shot can't hit the player if they are standing on the blocks, but Elec Man no longer follows the pattern above, seemingly doing whatever he wants with his jumps and attacks.

Weaknesses[]

Elec Man's biggest weakness is Rolling Cutter, which will destroy him in 3 hits. Super Arm is also a weakness, and can utilize the blocks to do 4 damage each, though it won't be enough on its own. Lastly, Hyper Bomb is a secondary weakness, but is unreliable and not recommended against him.

Mega Man Powered Up[]

Since it is a remake of the first game, Elec Man appears as a boss, but he also becomes a playable character if Mega Man beats him using only the Mega Buster. In New Style, his weakness goes from the Rolling Cutter to the Oil Slider. He wields his Thunder Beams like Mega Man does, with three big sparks firing off him with one going straight ahead of him, a second one going straight up, and the last one going straight down.

The challenges that feature Elec Man have him manipulate sliding blocks that can be manipulated with the Thunder Beams.

Elec Man is portrayed as very calm and noble, albeit arrogant, as well as rather narcissistic and overdramatic. This adds to his morbid side, which is displayed when caught in the heat of the moment, as he seems to be genuinely interested in electrocuting the other Robot Masters, and finish his opponents off at "lightning speed". However, he is also very smart, as seen when he faces Mega Man?, as he is able to quickly discern that the boss is not the real Mega Man by noting the eyes of the real Mega Man aren't as "clouded like a thunderstorm" as the imposter's (despite the fact that the impostor has a different mark on his helmet).

Strategy[]

Elec Man inherits the same attacks from the first game, but they are slightly slower. The lair on which he is fought also different, as one of the Guts Blocks on the left side is now positioned on the right side of his lair (this is carried over to Old Style Mode).

In Old Style, whenever the player attacks while Elec Man is approaching the player, he jumps backwards, firing a Thunder Beam in mid-air. Unlike in the first Mega Man game, he does not jump otherwise, nor can he be knocked back by any attack.

In New Style, Elec Man's Thunder Beams now deal less damage compared to Old Style and in the original Mega Man game. In Easy, he will only fire Thunder Beams while on the ground, whereas in Normal and Hard, Elec Man alternates between using the Thunder Beam while on the ground and in mid-air during a jump. In Hard, Elec Man will also jump backwards while firing a Thunder Beam in mid-air if the player attacks just like in Old Style.

In Normal and Hard, he also gains a new attack: the Thunder Bolt, consisting of a lightning bolt striking at the player's location. While the move occurs very quickly, its hitbox is rather small, however, so it is easily avoided by rapidly moving out of its way as it lands. He only uses this attack in Normal if he reaches half health, but he can do this at anytime in Hard, as well as doing it three times in succession. While using this attack, Elec Man is completely invulnerable to all of the player's attacks.

His weakness in New Style is now the Oil Slider, but this is somewhat risky as Elec Man may damage Mega Man or Oil Man by contact if the player rides on the Oil Slider, especially in Hard where Robot Master bosses cannot be knocked back by any attack. In Easy and Normal, the player can move slowly on the Oil Slider and jump off just as they hit Elec Man (who would then be knocked back). Nevertheless, it can be more beneficial for the player as Oil Man to take damage from the Thunder Beams (as they deal minimal damage compared to the contact damage) and use the brief invulnerability to hit Elec Man with the Oil Slider. He is defeated in a maximum of fourteen blobs, but in a minimum of five hits if Mega Man or Oil Man opts to attack him by riding on the Oil Slider.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge[]

Elec Man is one of the four bosses available in the Stage Select screen, which all come from Mega Man 1.

Attack pattern[]

Elec Man's difficulty has been significantly reduced, to the point of being one of the easiest bosses in the game. His movement is identical to that in Mega Man 1, but his running speed is much slower and the Thunder Beam hits for way less damage. Although he cannot shoot mid-air, the Thunder Beam attack is even bigger now, and jumping over it is extremely tight. However, he can be stopped from ever using this attack. While his knockback has been stripped away, his jump is always directed at the player and goes much higher, so high that he will actually leap over his designated attack points. With this knowledge, Elec Man can be tricked into jumping over his first attack point at the start of the fight, forcing him to run back to it once he lands. After this, the player can keep shooting to make him jump further away, and then simply 'orbit' around Elec Man, jumping over and running under him as he runs and jumps in a continuous loop that forces him away from his attack point.

Weakness[]

Elec Man's weakness is Rolling Cutter. Even though the Thunder Beam will no longer kill the player in 3 hits, Rolling Cutter will still kill Elec Man in 3 hits.

In Tournament mode, his team consists of three Elec Men, Ice Man, Bomb Man, Air Man, Bubble Man and Flash Man. In League mode, his team contains three Elec Men, two Gemini Men, two Snake Men and Dr. Wily.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters[]

"Elec Man's thunder laser is long and powerful. Distance is the key! Use an electric-proof weapon to stop him!"
—Dr. Light

Elec Man is one of the six bosses from the "Rescue Roll!" course. The power of his Thunder Beam was reduced compared to the first game, but his speed and attacking power, along with new lightning-based attacks, still make him a force to be reckoned with. Even though he was actually one of Dr. Light's creations, the narration indicated that Dr. Wily built him.

Super Adventure Rockman[]

If Mega Man is defeated by Air Man, Elec Man will appear to save him, giving the player the chance to fight against Air Man again.

Rockman Strategy[]

Elec Man appears throughout the story of Rockman Strategy, including being with Dr. Wily upon discovering the landing site of Apollo, Luna, and their teammates. He and Spark Man were subsequently dispatched to defend Cancer in Above the Clouds. Later, he joined Pisces at In a Tornado alongside Tomahawk Man.

When summoned, he assists the player who summoned him by running and jumping around the stage freely, attacking nearby enemies with his Thunder Beam. He also appears as a collectable Trophy.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Elec Man appears as a primary, Grab-type Spirit that increases damage of electrical attacks. His Spirit can be found in World of Light inside the Power Plant subsection. His Spirit battle is a stamina battle against a Pikachu Libre with increased power to electrical attacks, and with the lower part of the stage electrified.

Dialogues from Mega Man Powered Up[]

As a boss[]

Mega Man

Mega Man has the same dialogue in his Mega Man and civilian (Mega) forms.

  • Elec Man: Well done... but you say good bye here. I might even tell you more about me after I win.
  • Rock: I don't have any reason to fight you, Elecman! Come on, let's go home...
  • Elec Man: You'll never blast through my heart with that kind of attitude. It's really too bad, but I'm going to finish you at lightning speed...
Cut Man
  • Elec Man: Ah... I see it in your eyes and I share in your puzzlement and impatience...
  • Cut Man: (stammering) Mr. Elecman! Listen to me!
  • Elec Man: Mmm... to watch my beautiful bolts fly to the top of your head... To hear your delightful shrieks...
Guts Man
  • Elec Man: Ugh! Your unrefined ogre voice is grating on me to the point of short-circuiting... (note: "Your" is misspelled as "you're.")
  • Guts Man: (annoyed) Well, well, Elecman... You're still a self-absorbed weakling...
  • Elec Man: Humph. Prepare for the shock of a lifetime, fool!
Ice Man
  • Elec Man: My, what a cute little ice-elf. I'll show you the thrill of lightning!
  • Ice Man: (panicking and stammering) I don't like to be shocked, sir!
  • Elec Man: Mmm... To watch my beautiful bolts fly to the top of your head... To hear your delightful shrieks...
Bomb Man
  • Elec Man: Oh, I've never been so revolted... You're so... ugly... The less time with you, the better.
  • Bomb Man: (annoyed) I'll show you! It's the beauty on the inside that counts!
  • Elec Man: I suppose you're right... Fireworks explode into such beautiful colors... I'll expose your inner beauty for you...
Fire Man
  • Elec Man: Well done... but you say good bye here. I might even tell you more about me after I win...
  • Fire Man: You're fired!
  • Elec Man: You're really something, Fireman... But soon, you'll know the feeling of glorious lightning coursing through your body...
Time Man
  • Elec Man: You did well... But now it's time to say adeiu. Prepare to short-circuit from the sweetness of this moment!
  • Time Man: (unamused) Flashy, but hollow words. Listening to such prattle is truly a waste of time!
  • Elec Man: Don't worry, I won't bore you, although the eternity that awaits you might.
Oil Man
  • Elec Man: Too bad this exceptionally beautiful room will be ruined by filthy oil after I finish you off at lightning speed!
  • Oil Man: Hey! Keep it together, bro! Oil can solve all your problems!
  • Elec Man: There won't be a trace of you left after I'm done.
Proto Man
  • Elec Man: Mega Man...? No, you're not him. But there is a resemblance in your charismatic charm...
  • Proto Man: Elecman... I'm sorry, but I can't go easy on you...
  • Elec Man: My electricity coursing through your body from head to toe... What a wonderful battle we'll have, don't you think?
Roll
  • Elec Man: Those eyes... They're so mesmerizing... Even more than a million volts of electricity...
  • Roll: (overjoyed) Oh, thank goodness. You're still good old Elecman... right...?
  • Elec Man: Now it's your turn to be mesmerized! Time to turn the voltage up to the highest setting!

Mega Man Megamix[]

MegamixElec

Elec Man in Mega Man Megamix.

Elec Man is one of the two most prominently featured robots from the original game, along with Cut Man. Acting as the "big brother" of the Light family, he has a very no-nonsense serious personality, though he is shown to have moments of childishness in secret. Throughout the manga, he is slashed in the chest twice. First by Mega Man in "The Birth of Mega Man" with a Rolling Cutter, and again by Quick Man's giant Quick Boomerang in "R Destruction Order".

Elec Man was created to control the flow of power at a nuclear power plant. Due to the dangerous nature of his intended work environment, Elec Man was given improved decision-making abilities as well as faster movement speeds. The power generator contained within his body produces high-frequency electricity, which ionizes the high-frequency electromagnetic field surrounding him. By gathering the electricity inside his body at his fingertips, Elec Man is able to release it as a Thunder Beam. Elec Man had always been a dutiful worker, but after being forced into battle against Mega Man, Elec Man realized that he rather enjoyed combat. After being repaired, Elec Man returned to his uneventful days as an industrial robot.

Elec Man also appears in Mega Man Gigamix. When the Stardroids attacked Dr. Light's Laboratory, Elec Man, Mega Man and Cut Man were separated from Dr. Light and his other robots. Damaged and lost, they barely survived against the Stardroids pursuing them, but they are rescued by the Cossack Numbers.

Trivia[]

  • Elec Man is Keiji Inafune's favorite Robot Master from the first game, because he was the first robot he ever designed.[1]
  • Elec Man bears a resemblance to the 1973 Kyodai Hero character Thunder Mask. Both are robots who use electricity in their abilities as well.
  • Elec Man is incorrectly called Electric Man in the instruction manual from Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge.
  • Elec Man is one of the few Robot Masters in the series with the distinction of having the same color and thickness of forearms as the upper arms.
  • In Mega Man Powered Up, Elec Man has a very confident, theatrical personality, often speaking highly of himself and his skills. In addition to this, many of his poses are references to the traditional Japanese genre of tokusatsu, with his introduction pose specifically taken from the 1971 live action show Kamen Rider.
  • Elec Man's level theme sounds very similar to "Faithfully" by Journey, though Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae has confirmed that it was a coincidence.[4]
  • In Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Elec Man's Force Field attack is similar to the Force Field special weapon from Volt Man in Mega Man for the PC.
  • The thunderbolt on his mask is inverted in his Mega Man 3 mugshot and RockBoard card.
  • Elec Man's dislike of rubber products in his Mega Man & Bass CD data is a reference to how electricity cannot flow freely on rubber, which instead acts as an insulator.
  • In Mega Man Powered Up, when Fire Man fights Elec Man, Elec Man congratulates him and says he's "really something". When Elec Man fights Fire Man, Elec Man hesitates, but eventually does fight him to save him. Elec Man seems to have some form of bond with or respect for Fire Man.
