Rockmen R Part I - Intro: Who's that girl?
May 3, 2010
Well, since I was feeling depressed, I decided to start my next playthrough. This time I'm not doing a ROM hack, but a Doujin game -- Rockmen R: Dr. Wily's Counterattack, to be precise. Maybe you've heard of it on RPM, or watched videos of it on NicoNico; but chances are you haven't played it. That's because the authors, Capricorn, were only able to release a limited number of discs before Capcom made them cease and desist. At any rate, this game is awesome for many reasons, the two most important ones being !) It stars Roll-chan; and 2) the music flat out RULES.
This run, or at least the good parts of it, is dedicated to Vixynyan, the lady who runs Rockmen Perfect Memories. As some of you know, for the past year or so I've been collecting Rockman-related ROM hacks and putting them into a web archive, which I hope to make publicly available in the next few months (cross your fingers!). I've never made a website before, much less a Rockman-related one, and Vixy has given me a lot of helpful advice. I can't really properly thank her for taking the time to help me, so this is just a small way of showing my gratitude.
Thanks are also due to MissPinkKittyRose, without whose helpful FAQ I would never have found Camtasia. Finally, I want to thank all of my subscribers for their support in spite of my evident lack of gaming skills.
And just to get this out of the way: Please do not ask me for the game. I bought it from an online Japanese auction using Abidko for about US$50, and that's probably your best bet if you want to find it. I personally strongly support fan-game makers and ROM hackers for all of the hard work they do without getting half the credit they deserve. Capricorn obviously put a lot of time and effort into the game, and out of respect for them I CANNOT and WILL NOT distribute it. You can find a download for a playable demo at their website: http://moon.tiyogami.com.
I have translated the Japanese into English. Be aware that Chinese is my main foreign language and that I'm still learning Japanese, so my translations are probably not 100% accurate, although I don't think any of them are too far off. If anyone who knows Japanese well finds any mistakes, please send me a message, so I can learn and correct them. I'll give you credit both here and in the video. Thanks!
