"It's time for your punishment! Behold, the myriad magical moves of the wondrous Super Idol, Rafflesian!"
―Rafflesian, Mega Man X: Command Mission

Rafflesian (ラフレシアン Rafureshian) is a secret boss in Mega Man X: Command Mission. She is a rafflesia Reploid who leads a dancing troupe, unintentionally blocking the way to the Ultimate Armor Hyper Mode.

Characteristics[]

Rafflesian is a female, humanoid Reploid whose design is inspired by the rafflesia, a parasitic flowering plant found in Indonesia. She wears a long skirt resembling the large red petals of a rafflesia. She has light blue hair that comes back in a ponytail, and her face is covered by a pink visor. She also wields a staff with a sun on the tip. Overall, she highly resembles her Belladonna lackeys, but with the skirt and a higher voice to tell her apart.

Rafflesian is a dramatic Reploid that's a self-proclaimed 'Super Idol' and prefers to practice her dance routine in private. Upon X's party discovering her, she was very surprised and angry towards them for invading her secret lessons, throwing a childish fit over the group entering her room. Believing X's party unforgivable, she attacks the party in a rage to 'punish' them for their mistake. Her dialogue pre-battle has her express complete confusion over whom X's party were, suggesting she's not one to be well-informed.

Unlike fellow secret boss Duckbill Mole, Rafflesian's affiliation with the Rebellion Army is unclear, and if she even knows or cares that the items in her room include a Hyper Mode for X. If she was affiliated with the Rebellion, then her being locked away in Tianna Camp with said items might indicate she was either being punished for unknown reasons and/or the Rebellion Army did not see her as much of an asset to their cause, beyond ensuring the gear was being defended.

History[]

Rafflesian can be found within Maze Area I of the depths of Tianna Camp, where she is performing a "secret lesson" with two Belladonnas. Her part of Maze Area I can only be accessed using the Tianna Key found via the Deployment Center. Upon seeing X's party, she gets upset at them for interrupting her session and seeing her secrets, attacking them with her Belladonnas. Defeating her gives X access to the Ultimate Armor and two Figure Tokens.

Stats[]

Belladonna has no elemental alignment, but can use Thunder and Blizzard attacks. Her special attack is Sunburst, which fires lasers from her skirt that normally hit each party member ten times for 250 damage. Both Rafflesian and her Belladonas regain their life energy every turn. They will also gain stat increases; Rafflesian gains each turn, but the Belladonas only gain when they are attacked. It's better to focus on one enemy at a time, starting with Rafflesian. If you hit them all at once, the Belladonas will just gain power and the battle will become tougher.

Trivia[]

  • Rafflesian shares a few minor similarities with Marino. Not only does Marino's theme song play while fighting against Rafflesian, but both characters are voiced by the same voice actress, Carol-Anne Day. They also have the same hairstyle (although Rafflesian's is blue and Marino's is green).
  • Rafflesian was originally planned to be a chapter boss, along with Depth Dragoon and Duckbill Mole, to round out the typical "eight Mavericks" formula. However, when the story was mandated to be cut down, she was repurposed as a secret boss.[1]
  • Rafflesian only has four fingers on each hand, a trait she shares with the Belladonnas.
  • While Rafflesian's allegiance isn't outright confirmed, given that eight 'combat units' Reploids were noted by Zero to make up the Rebellion Army's operatives, and the remaining three of the non-Rebellion Army Reploid bosses (Redips, Depth Dragoon and Ninetails' clan) were confirmed to be on their own sides or the Maverick Hunters, it leads credence to Rafflesian being the eighth operative.
