This article is about the boss from Mega Man II. For the Mega Man 2 boss, see Wily Machine 2.

Wily Machine II, known as Wily Machine World 2 (ワイリーマシン・ワールド2号 Wairī Mashin Wārudo 2 Gō) in Japan, is the Wily Machine used by Dr. Wily inside the Wily Station in Mega Man II.

Appearances[]

Mega Man II[]

This Wily Machine is the final boss of the game, fought at the very end of the Wily Station stage.

Attack Pattern[]

Top

There are a total of three phases, which each consist of separate battle suits controlled Dr. Wily from a flying transport that gets attached to them. When one form is destroyed, this part will fly away and attach to the next form. It should be noted that the first 2 forms go down after they lose 12 HP, though the 3rd form goes down when all HP is lost. The transport has a skull on its front (being the only Wily Machine from the Game Boy games to feature a skull motif), jets on the back, a propeller on the bottom, and the cockpit on the top, where Dr. Wily can be seen. In all forms, the cockpit is the only part that can be damaged.

Form 1

The first form of the Wily Machine II contains a pair of legs, looking similar to a raptor. It has a set order of attacks that it cycles through: the first is to do a high jump to Mega Man's position. Upon landing, it will drop a bouncing bomb in Mega Man's direction, and Mega Man will have to slide under it to avoid damage. After some waiting, the Wily Machine attacks by shooting one of its talons straight forward along the ground. The pattern repeats itself from here.

Form 2

The second form of the Wily Machine II contains two cannons and tank threads, and hangs out on the right side. It also has a set order of attacks that it cycles through. It starts out by shooting two energy orbs, one at a time, from its arms at Mega Man's position. After the second orb is launched, it slowly drives to the center, where it launches a bouncing bomb just like in the first phase. However, once Mega Man passes under this particular bomb, it will explode on the ground, releasing two fiery projectiles to fly up diagonally. The boss returns to the corner of the screen and repeats its attack patterns there.

Form 3

The third and final form of the Wily Machine II contains legs and a tail, similar to a large dinosaur. As with before, it has a set order of attacks. The first is to fire an angry missile weapon, which homes in on Mega Man's position for a second before continuing to move in a straight line. The second attack is to launch four little robots (which resemble Goombas from the Super Mario franchise) from its tail to rain down on Mega Man from above, and he will have to stand in-between them to dodge it. Lastly, the skull on the machine extends its neck for a bit, though this does not do anything.

After destroying the last form, Mega Man obtains the angry missile as a new weapon while Dr. Wily escapes the Wily Station with his transport. Mega Man follows him with Rush and fires the missile he obtained from the Wily Machine, damaging Dr. Wily's transport and sending it crashing into Earth, with Wily apparently dying in a large explosion (despite him returning in later games).

Weaknesses[]

Each phase of the Wily Machine II is weak to Sakugarne: however, the weapon will damage Mega Man even if he gets in a successful hit, and the boss's contact damage will overpower Sakugrane's damage. Instead, use the Mega Buster, which works on all phases.

Other appearances[]

The first form of Wily Machine II appeared in the book Rockman: Dr. Wily wo Yattsukero!! with a different color. Dr. Wily apparently planned to use it against Mega Man, but when Proto Man appears to assist him, he attempts to escape. Mega Man chases him and destroys the Wily Machine with the Super Adapter.

Trivia[]

  • The sprites from this Wily Machine are disproportional with Dr. Wily's sprites.
  • In the first form's sprite, there is a part with Wily's logo connecting the top part with the legs. This part is absent in artworks, having the top part's propeller visible and the legs being connected directly to the top part.
  • The aftermath of this battle is one of the very few that does not conclude with Dr. Wily begging for mercy.
    • It's also the only instance where Mega Man absorbs the weapon of a Wily Machine.
