"His power is growing with the virus... It's too dangerous to keep them loose! Please... at least do something about Zero... before it's too late!"
―Lifesaver, Mega Man X5

Lifesaver (ライフセーバー Raifusēbā) is one of many Reploids of the same model that works as the Maverick Hunters' medical control officer in Mega Man X5.[3] He performs medical procedures and runs virus tests, and is very knowledgeable of the Sigma Virus and its properties.

Characteristics[]

Lifesaver is a tall, masculine Reploid with white and green medical armor. His helmet has a light resembling a doctor's head mirror and a chin guard resembling a brown beard.

Lifesaver is a cautious and dedicated medic. He acts entirely on logic and does not let personal feelings get in the way of his duties, quickly becoming fearful for Zero after recognizing his viral immunity and being displeased when Signas refused to take immediate action. He was always suspicious of Zero's virus readings, having watched his unique immunity for a long time, and was ready to jump to conclusions as soon as there was potential danger.

History[]

Mega Man X5[]

X5 scene28

Lifesaver reports to Signas about Zero.

In Zero's story, Lifesaver is first seen reporting to Signas about Zero's reaction to the Sigma Virus. Signas is unconcerned, citing that Zero has encountered Sigma so many times he must be immune to the virus, but Lifesaver is more worried about his rising power levels. When Signas dismisses him, Lifesaver pleads with him to take action before something happens to Zero.

If the Space Shuttle operation was a success, Lifesaver retrieves Zero from the crash site and restores him at Hunter Base. However, he remains wary of Zero's interactions with the virus.

If the player is Zero in Zero Space, two Lifesaver-model Reploids accompany X to stop Zero and send him back to Hunter Base. Lifesaver accuses Zero of being Maverick for his continued immunity and growing power amidst the Zero Virus. X tries to temper the accusation, but it still results in a battle between Zero and X after the two Lifesavers depart.

Dialogue[]

Lifesaver's Report[]

Lifesaver: ...That's all of the report on Zero.
Signas: Zero has fought Sigma several times, I believe he has the Virus antibodies.
Lifesaver: It's possible... He doesn't react negatively to the Virus... His power-output is actually growing... For the most part, the body systems of X and Zero remain mysterious. I can't predict what will happen... I suggest you take measures...
Signas: Keep this secret... I'll think it over.
Lifesaver: His power is growing with the virus... It's too dangerous to keep them loose! Please... at least do something about Zero... before it's too late!

X vs. Zero (Zero's story)[]

Zero: X...Lifesaver...Why are you here?
Lifesaver: Look...! Just as we expected...The Virus is everywhere, and yet he is not infected at all. He must've already become a Maverick!
X: No! Don't, Lifesaver! You are jumping to conclusions! Still...I agree with you that Zero might be a danger.
Zero: What are you talking about, X...? You don't mean it, do you?
X: .........I do, Zero...I came here because I'm really worried about you...I'll fight for you, Zero. You are tired, aren't you? Go back to the base and get a complete physical check!
Zero: Wait! What if you are the one who has become a Maverick...? YOU go back to the base! I can handle this mission. It's stupid to endanger both of us.
X: Zero, I can't allow you to handle this mission anymore... Don't make me force you to go back!
Zero: So you're serious, then...I can't believe this... I had hoped it would never come to this, that we wouldn't have to fight over such a trivial matter, but so be it... Prepare to lose, X!

Designer Comments
"Lifesaver's got a super-slick design. But he shows up even less than Douglas. (sweat) He does touch on the core of the story, though, so go easy on me. If he seems strong for the role of a doctor, perhaps it's because he was originally planned to show up as an enemy? There was no set-up for him as an enemy originally, but if I could have them [you?] play, maybe they'd realize, 'Oh! I wish they'd established him like that!' (Nah, I don't think they would (grin), but this is revealing a bit too much of the idea source, so I can't say any more.)" [4][5]

Designer Comments
"This was the first of the sub-characters I designed. Pay attention and you'll see he has a more mechanical feel to him than do all the other Repliroids. I thought there was only one of him, so I was a bit surprised that a whole group shows up. Somehow it seems there are at least more than three of him/them." -Haruki Suetsugu [4][5]

"There are many Lifesavers, and they feel less 'human' than the others, so I tried to convey this by reducing the amount of fleshy body parts on them." -Haruki Suetsugu[3]

Trivia[]

  • Lifesaver was named "Virus Saver" (ウィルスセーバー) in his concept art.
