Item-2 (アイテム2号 Aitemu 2 Gou) is one of the three transport items from Mega Man 2. It is a red jet sled that Dr. Light created to assist Mega Man, finishing and giving it to him after Air Man's defeat. It can be used to pass by long gaps, like the area with Appearing Blocks in Heat Man's stage, and is required to pass the area with spikes in the beginning of the second Wily Castle stage. It is also available in the Wily Tower mode from Mega Man: The Wily Wars.

Item-2 has a fatal weakness however: once summoned, it will fly forward and can not be stopped except by hitting a wall or changing weapons in the Sub Screen. It has a brief delay when summoned, but should Mega Man fail to jump on it in time, it will still fly away, wasting Weapon Energy. Once ridden, it cannot change direction either, and will still fly forward even if Mega Man falls off. Its function in the games was later replaced by Rush Jet, which eliminates all of these weakness.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going with these handy items! Item-1 is a sturdy floating platform. Item-2 is a speedy rocket-board. Item-3 is a helpful step that can scale any surface!"
Mega Man 3: The Return of Dr. Wily description

Dr. Light supplied Mega Man, via Cut Man, with program data that allowed Mega Man to utilize Item-2, alongside Item-1 and Item-3, after Mega Man had been restored to his regular state of mind in Wily's fortress. Mega Man created two boards (ony having enough energy for two) for him and his brothers to use and pass by the fortress, Mega Man going with Bomb Man and Guts Man with Time Man and Oil Man. After Dr. Wily's defeat, Wily sets his castle to self-destruct, and Mega Man uses an Item-2 to escape before time runs out, gathering his brothers in the way.[1]

During Worlds Collide, Copy Robot used an Item-2 to fight against Mega Man and Rush. At one point in the battle they switch their transports, and when Rush tries to drop Copy Robot, he jumps in Mega Man's direction, and Mega Man finishes him off with Tail Wind. Afterwards Mega Man abandons the Item-2 and returns to Rush Jet.[2] Item-2s were also utilized by the eight original Light Robot Masters to enter the Skull Egg Zone, where they arrived in as the heroes' cavalry. Two of them were loaned to Proto Man and Knuckles the Echidna to infiltrate the Wily Egg, while Dr. Light used Rush Jet to accompany them. The Item-2 used by Knuckles is destroyed by the Egg-Wily Machine X. After the Super Genesis Wave is activated, Proto Man takes Dr. Light and they try to escape from it with Item-2, without success.[3]

Mega Man Megamix[]

Item-2 is a high-speed transportation unit that Dr. Light developed to assist Mega Man in combat. Its top speed exceeds mach 3. While not seen in the manga, Item-1 and Item-3 also exist, but due to the urgent nature of Mega Man's situation in the story R Destruction Order, Dr. Light decided to bring out Item-2, which was best suited to get Mega Man where he needed to be, Dr. Wily's base. It was also used by Mega Man in the story The Grim Reaper of Resurrection to reach Dr. Cossack's home.

In Mega Man Gigamix, Item-2 was cannibalized by Auto into the Rush Roadster, which he intended to use to enter the Battle & Chase competition, before the vehicle is taken by Mega Man to stop Roll from entering. Later, a repaired or new Item-2 is used by Mega Man when he, Cut Man, and Elec Man attempt to attack Terra. After the short battle, only the Item-2 is found by Dr. Light's other robots, their whereabouts and safety being unknown until their return.

Rockman: Dr. Wily no Inbou[]

After Air Man's defeat, Mega Man returns to Dr. Light's Laboratory and receives Item-2. It is used by him to pass a long river from the sewer overheated by Heat Man and an area with spikes in Dr. Wily's base.

Rockman 4Koma Dai Koushin[]

Item-2, alongside Item-1 and 3, appeared in one of the shorts from Ryūzō Sotoma, where Roll considers them the most useful supports for her tasks, using Item-2 for doing groceries faster.
