This page is about Dark Man 2. For the others see Dark Man 1, 3 or 4. To see information on their NetNavi counterpart, see DarkMan.EXE.

Dark Man 2 (ダークマン2 Dākuman 2), also written as Dark Man II, is the second of the four Dark Man robots created by Dr. Wily in Mega Man 5 to assassinate Mega Man. Dark Man 2 is the basic model, being the only one without a weapon other than two electromagnetic barriers that protect him from attacks. Although he has a simple design, Dr. Wily was confident on his work.[1]

Appearance[]

Dark Man 2 is a simple humanoid robot with a black body. He has a green head with a top part which shows his 'brain', solid yellow eyes, a gray armor, white pauldron, gray bracers, white hands, yellow abdomen and gray boots.

Mega Man 5[]

Dark Man 2 is the boss of Proto Stage 2.

Attack Pattern[]

Dark Man 2 is one of the easiest bosses in the series. His only pattern alternates between walking to Mega Man's position, and stopping for 2 seconds once he passes his position. His speed gradually increases as he receives damage, similar to Dark Man 1, and hits top speed once he reaches half-health. Unlike Dark Man 1, Dark Man 2 has protection in the form of two electromagnetic barriers which protect him from Mega Man's buster shots and circle around him throughout the entire battle. Damaging him with the buster means Mega Man will have to time his shots so they hit Dark Man 2 when the barriers are not directly in front of him.

Weakness[]

As with all the Dark Men, Dark Man 2 is weak to Beat, who automatically homes in on him to damage him, going through his shield and doing 3 damage. If the player wishes to use a different weapon if they want to save Beat for Dark Man 3 or 4, or does not have Beat, the player has three options to use. Napalm Bomb, Crystal Eye, and Super Arrow all do 2 damage, and also ignore his barriers. Crystal Eye is the most recommended out of these three, as it travels faster than Napalm Bomb and costs less ammo than Super Arrow. As with all bosses, Dark Man 2 takes 3 damage from a fully-charged buster shot.

Other appearances[]

Each of the four Dark Man robots appears mixed with the scrap in the first Wily Castle stage from Mega Man 10, but only their heads are visible.

Dark Man 2 in the animated series.

Dark Man 2, referred to only as "Dark Man" in the series, is the only Dark Man robot that appeared in the animated series, appearing in the episodes The Day the Moon Fell and Brain Bots. In the animated series, his electromagnetic barriers are replaced with an unnamed, net-like energy weapon that works in a similar way, deflecting all incoming buster shots. However, this makes it harder for him to use it offensively. To compensate, he uses his net to trap Mega Man when the opportunity presents itself. Mega Man is able to obtain his power, unlike in the original game.

Mega Man: Upon a Star[]

Dark Man 2 has a brief appearance in the first episode, Appearance in Japan. Right after Dark Man 1's fall, Dark Man 2 appears flying in Mega Man's direction, but Mega Man slides under him and fires his Mega Buster during the slide, making Dark Man 2 crash on the ceiling.

All four Dark Man models are seen briefly in Mega Man #55, with Dr. Light seeing them in a vision of the near future.

Mega Man Megamix[]

The four Dark Man type robots are based on the same design that were in charge of defending Dr. Wily's fortress during his fifth attempt at world domination. Dark Man 2 is the standard variation. He isn't equipped with any weapons, but has two separate electromagnetic shields that he can use. These electromagnetic shields allow him to swap features with other Dark Man robots, such as Dark Man 1's continuous tracks and Dark Man 3's Spark Shot. Dark Man 2's internal temperature constantly rises while his barriers are active, so his feet are designed to release the excess heat as needed.

Dark Man 2 first appears robbing a bank alongside Dark Man 1 in “Warrior’s Day Off,” but they are stopped by Proto Man. In “Power Battle,” Dark Man 4 calls the other Dark Man robots to kidnap Roll, Auto, and Rush to present them as hostages to Dr. Wily, in exchange for greater rank. When they corner the three, Bass intervenes calling them cowards for ganging up on Roll, easily beating the four Dark Man robots.

The four Dark Man robots also appeared in the Mega Man Gigamix story "To a Shining Morrow", explaining to Shadow Man that they survived the attack from the alien robot by hiding inside Gamerizer, and that they helped Shade Man transport and repair the defeated Wily Numbers.
