Bass GS (ゴスペルスタイル Gospel Style)[1] known as Forte GS (フォルテGS (ジーエス) Forute Jīesu) in Japan,[2] is an optional superboss in Mega Man Battle Network 3 and Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge and a playable Rank S Hunter Program in Mega Man X DiVE. He is the form the NetNavi Bass.EXE takes after he has absorbed the Gospel Bug Beast.

History[]

Mega Man Battle Network 3[]

During the climax of Mega Man Battle Network 3, Bass is absorbed by Alpha and his fate is left unknown. An after credits scene reveals that Bass was alive, albeit barely, and was found by the remnants of the Gospel Bug Beast. Bass merges with Gospel and is saved, becoming Bass GS, but loses his memory in the process. Serenade alludes to Bass after they are beaten, stating that he managed to defeat “Him” after a battle that lasted days and that Bass is consuming bugs, and is about to awaken. After MegaMan has put 300 BugFrags into the BugFrag Trader in the Secret Area, Bass will emerge from it where he reveals his memory loss and states he only seeks those with power. He is defeated, much to his shock, and MegaMan attempts to remind Bass of who he is and of Dr. Cossak, but Bass resists and assures that he doesn’t need anyone and is only seeking power before vanishing.

Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge[]

After defeating 99 opponents, Bass GS will delete the NormalNavi meant to fight the player character, stating he created a program that activates when it has found then “Ultimate Navi”, and states the player character will become his new source of power. He fights the player and loses, and leaves behind the Bass GS Battle Chip.

Though seen in Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, it is unknown what happens to Gospel's presence within Bass in Mega Man Battle Network 4 and beyond, as Bass does not use his powers again and instead takes the form of Bass XX in later encounters.

Abilities[]

  • Earth Break (アースブレイカー Āsu Bureikā, Earth Breaker),
450 BC Element Null None damage:
Bass will rise briefly out of reach and then descend suddenly, trying to smite his target with an overhead-slamming arm strike. This attack ignores most if not all defenses and will break an entire column of panels. Note that Bass drops the Life Aura for the duration of this attack, making this attack his biggest vulnerability.
  • Shooting Claw (シューティングクロー Shūtingu Kurō),
300 BC Element Null None damage:
GS only. Bass points at MegaMan's area, and Gospel's severed paws will strike from the air, hitting and cracking two panels.
  • Gospel Cannon (ゴスペルキャノン Gosuperu Kyanon),
300 BC Element Heat Fire damage:
A Gospel head will appear on Bass' forearm and spray its breath across two columns, targeting the panel immediately before Bass and the entire column beyond that. If Bass GS is not in the center of the field, the attack's pattern remains consistent but shifts location accordingly.
  • Vanishing World (バニシングワールド Banishingu Wārudo),
500 BC Element Null None damage:
GS only. Bass summons a larger Gospel head, which launches a massive laser that attacks almost the entire field. It has the range of the original Breath of Gospel attack used by Gospel itself, plus any panels in the same row as Bass beyond that. This attack breaks every panel in range, pierces the player's defenses, and inflicts massive damage. Bass GS can only use this when his HP is 500 or less, and will only use it once. This attack has also been translated as Banishing World; it appeared in MegaMan NT Warrior Vol. 7 as Bass GS' finishing move.
  • Double Vanishing World:
Manga only. Bass calls two large Gospel hands and executes two Vanishing Worlds.

Trivia[]

  • Bass GS is a reference to the original Bass and Treble, who are companions in the original Mega Man series. It may also be a references to the fact that Bass and Treble can combine with Treble Boost.
  • When using both Gospel Breath and Vanishing World, Gospel's head on Bass' forearm isn't aligned properly with his sprite.
