This article is about the NetNavi SearchMan.EXE. For his anime counterpart, see SearchMan.EXE (anime). For his Robot Master counterpart, see Search Man.

SearchMan.EXE (サーチマン.EXE[1][2] Sāchiman Eguze), spelled SerchMan in-game, is the NetNavi operated by Raika. He is an expert sniper and believes battles can be calculated in hard numbers. SearchMan can analyze data and disable any high level security system quickly compared to the average Navi.

Appearance[]

SearchMan is completely different from his classic series' counterpart and his design is based upon a camouflaged solider. SearchMan notably has one head, orange hair, red eyes and a green area on his front nose and under his chin. He has a black body, a green camouflage armor with a small gray area on the front, a camouflage left hand with black fingers, a scope gun on his right arm, gray shoulder pads with green linings, camouflage chausses, gray metallic knee pads, and camouflage feet with white lining.

SearchMan's Navi mark represents a red cursor on a black background.

History[]

Mega Man Battle Network 4: Red Sun[]

Raika and SearchMan are competitors in the Red Sun Tournament. He tests out MegaMan’s capabilities by sniping at him as he travels through the Undernet. Upon inspection, he concludes he had a 99% chance of winning, but MegaMan fought those odds and won the match.

Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team ProtoMan[]

SearchMan joins Team ProtoMan in Battle Network 5 to track down Nebula's Sharo leader, CosmoMan.

SearchMan is imitated by a fake SearchMan to trick MegaMan into believing that SearchMan is attempting to destroy GargCastle, while another Navi imitates MegaMan to convince SearchMan of the same. They meet deep inside GargCastle, and SearchMan is beaten, upon which the fakes reveal themselves. Both SearchMan and MegaMan forgive each other, team up, and destroy the fake Navis.

In the Nintendo DS version of the game, if the player is using Team Colonel's storyline and has NumberMan and a TP chip, NumberMan can be swapped out in the battle for SearchMan.

SearchMan in the PET.

SearchMan is an unlockable playable character. His theme is a remix of his Robot Master's counterpart from Rockman 8: Metal Heroes.

As an Soldier Navi, only he will allow the player to receive mission mails from the Sharo Army's HQ once per day as long as he remains in the player's PET.

His Special Program is the Scope Gun, a weapon that fires 5 times with each use at a targeted oponent and pierces Invisible. He gains HP by arresting Dark Chip dealers and completing the Sniper Training minigames that can be found in Mystery Data.

Anime[]

Main article: SearchMan.EXE (anime)

Much like his video game counterpart, SearchMan serves as the NetNavi of Raika, with the two of them working together as a unified duo from within their various missions.

While initially cold with MegaMan, the two becomes friends and partners up against many foes.

Abilities[]

SearchMan

SearchMan's Navi Mark

  • In Battle Network 4, SearchMan will start with a boulder on his side, he’ll use it for cover. He will also go underground PopUp Chip style when performing most of his attacks. He can only be hit by attacks that hit underground while he’s like this.
  • In Battle Network 5, SearchMan will sometimes vanish to hide his location (his visual will be gone but can still be hit).
  • Satelity, known as Satellite Ray (サテライトレイ Sateraito Rei, "Satellite Ray") in Japan:
Summons a satellite that aims at player and fire a laser that expands in four directions. This is his Special Chip in Battle Network 5.
  • Search Grenade (サーチグレネード Sāchi Gurenēdo):
SearchMan camouflaged himself and sends a grenade to his opponent’s position and it explodes in a cross pattern. In Battle Network 4, he throws the grenades. In Battle Network 5, he rolls them on the ground.
  • Scope Gun (スコープガン Sukōpu Gan)/Snipe Gun[3]:
SearchMan aims the scope gun at the player and shoots repeatedly if within range. It even pierce through enemies that are in their invisibility frames. In Battle Network 4, SearchMan used this ability to shoot at MegaMan during his story event in the Undernet.
  • Panel Search (パネルサーチ Paneru Sāchi):
Only available in Liberation Missions. He searches 10 panels forwards to locate item panels, removing the trap through virus battling, and leaves the item panels alone.
  • Search Snipe (サーチスナイプ Sāchi Sunaipu):
SearchMan's MMBN5DS Support ability. If a virus holds a BattleChip, he will attack them at the start of the turn and destroy that chip. In multiplayer battles, if the opponent attempts to use a BattleChip for the first time in a battle, he will attack them and destroy that chip.
  • Warp Gun - Anime only [4]. A special Battle Chip that lets SearchMan lock on to a target in another network or the real world of affected by a Dimensional Area. When he fires, the shot will travel across a warp that relocates to that location and snipes that target.

Double Soul and Chaos Unison[]

Search Soul[]

SearchSoul-art

Search Soul

After completing SearchMan's scenario in Red Sun and Team ProtoMan, MegaMan obtains Search Soul. This form has abilities to cancel out the enemy's invisible frames. It also gives the special "Shuffle" button on the Custom Screen. By clicking it (up to three times), MegaMan can shuffle the remaining chips on the screen with ones in the folder (like shuffling a deck of cards).

Search Chaos[]

Search Chaos

By sacrificing the Dark Circle Dark Chip, MegaMan gains rust colored armor and retains the shuffle ability, but loses Snipe Gun in favor of the Dark Chip as a charge shot. This allows MegaMan to pelt seven out of the nine panels on the enemy ranks with powerful bullets. It only lasts one turn.

Trivia[]

  • While the Robot Master Search Man has a more humorous personality because of his two heads, SearchMan.EXE is the opposite, and is strict, cold, and calculating.
  • The satellite he uses in battle closely resembles and functions like the Satella virus from the first game.
