For the Mega Man II boss, see Wily Machine II.

Wily Machine 2 (ワイリーマシン2号 Wairī Mashin 2 Gou) is the second Wily Machine created by Dr. Wily. It is the penultimate boss from the game Mega Man 2, being piloted by Dr. Wily in his first Wily Castle.

Mega Man 2[]

Wily Machine 2 is the boss of Wily Stage 5, fought immediately after the player is done with the Robot Master rematches.

Attack Pattern[]

The Wily Machine 2 always moves side to side in the air, just like the previous Machine did. The first phase's weak point is the glass cockpit, and attacks by firing large energy shots from its underside cannon within set intervals. These energy shots move in negative arcs, meaning they first go down, then fly upwards. The arcs are always aligned to target the player, so they have to either jump over the projectiles or walk out of their way.

After depleting the first energy gauge, the armored cockpit is damaged, revealing Dr. Wily at the controls. The energy shots this time are now fired in bouncing arcs, moving forward in short hops. The player can walk under them with precise timing, but if multiple balls are lined up together, it's impossible to avoid them all.

After defeating the second phase, Dr. Wily escapes using his UFO (which was positioned on top) as the entire machine explodes in glorious fashion. However, the floor also explodes and Mega Man drops down, taking him to Wily Stage 6.

Weaknesses[]

As with most Wily bosses in Mega Man 2, Wily Machine 2 does not have I-frames, in both of its forms.

The first phase is weak to Atomic Fire, so much as 1/2 fully-charged shots will destroy it outright. If this weapon is unavailable, Metal Blade is a good substitute, as it can hit the boss from the ground. It is also weak to Crash Bomb, but it is best saved for the second phase.

The second phase is weak to Crash Bomb, and will die in 4/7 hits. However, if you don't Game Over, you are not likely to have any Crash Bombs on you thanks to Boobeam Trap. However, you can make it out of that fight with one Crash Bomb remaining (see that page for more details). When the Wily Machine 2 doubles back from the left side, the Crash Bomb must be aimed directly underneath the cockpit so the explosion goes off and racks up multiple hits on the boss, destroying it with just one shot. If Crash Bomb can't be used, both Metal Blade and Air Shooter make for good substitutes.

Other appearances[]

Dr. Wily appeared with the Wily Machine 2 in the Mega Man events from the mobile games Castle & Dragon and Dragalia Lost.

Cntgmwilymachine

Dr. Wily's machine from Captain N: The Game Master.

An unnamed machine similar to the Wily Machine 2 was used by Wily in the cartoon Captain N: The Game Master. Although this machine appeared in the second game, in the cartoon it is used in the episode "Mega Trouble in Megaland", which is based on the first game.

In Mega Man Issue 12, Wily uses the Wily Machine 2 to directly confront Mega Man, forcing the Blue Bomber to dodge his attacks while expressing confusion about his cryptic references to having access to technology beyond the stars and an impending invasion. The Wily Machine 2 was ultimately destroyed by Mega Man with the Metal Blades Special Weapon (Mega Man had initially intended to dish out all of his special weapons against Dr. Wily starting with the Metal Blades in order to be "respectful" and "give them back," although the surprising effectiveness of the Metal Blades ended up making this unnecessary).

Wily Machine 2 also appeared in the manga Rockman: Dr. Wily no Inbou and in the Mega Man 2 book.
