Holograph Mega Mans, known as Holograph Rockmans (ホログラフロックマンズ Horogurafu Rokkumanzu) in Japan, are the bosses of the third Wily Castle stage in Mega Man 3; a Copy Robot with a pair of holograms of himself. Unlike the Copy Robot from the first game, this Copy Robot apparently only copied Mega Man's appearance as he does not use Special Weapons and other moves (despite changing to the same color as Mega Man's current weapon due to sharing the same graphics), and is able to shoot in any direction with his Mega Buster.

Mega Man 3[]

Attack Pattern[]

The room layout is unique to the boss fight, consisting of three central platforms with a teleporter each in their center. There are small platforms on the far walls to help navigate these. Each copy appears from these teleports at the same time, and start walking back and forth along their platforms. The top and bottom copies first head right while the middle one first heads left. During their walk, the copies attack with the Mega Buster, aiming at Mega Man's position and shooting constantly even if they are not facing him. Each copy walks around until they pass by the teleporter a second time, which allows them to teleport away and switch positions upon returning. Only the true Copy Robot can be damaged - shots will pass through the other two.

The real one will always start on the uppermost platform, but will switch places randomly afterwards. There is a way to tell which Copy Robot is the true one. While they all use the same teleport animation, the real one starts the animation a bit earlier than the others.

In Mega Man: The Wily Wars, the real one's starting position is randomized and they all start the teleport animation at the same time.

Weaknesses[]

Due to the real one's lack of I-frames, it can be disposed of much quicker thanks to a few weapons. Both Search Snake and Top Spin do 7 damage and can kill in 4 hits, with Top Spin being able to one-shot the boss if used immediately out of getting hit the first time. Search Snake can also take advantage of the lack of I-frames, and easily destroy the boss.

In Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Top Spin cannot one-shot the boss due to everyone having longer I-frames.

Damage Data Chart[]

Amount of damage in units that the true Holograph Mega Man receives from each Special Weapon in Mega Man 3.

Mega Man 3
Mega Buster Needle Cannon Magnet Missile Gemini Laser Hard Knuckle Top Spin Search Snake Spark Shock Shadow Blade
1 1 0 1 4 7* 7 0 2

*Top Spin can take advantage of the vulnerable Hologram's lack of invincibility frames to chain multiple damage frames together, possibly defeating the boss in a single attack.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

A second Copy Robot appears in issue 47, being created when Mega Man falls on a trap in the Wily Castle. This Copy Robot employed a tactic similar to that of Gemini Man, using two holographic copies to confuse and attack Mega Man. Mega Man defeated him with Search Snake and then attempted to convince him that he didn't need to serve as Wily's servant, which he considered. Unfortunately, before anything could come of this, he was destroyed by Doc Robot with Crash Bomber, the Copy Robot shoving Mega Man out of the way so he doesn't get hit by the blast. Unlike in Mega Man 3, the Copy Robot actually does use Special Weapons in the comic, with two of the holograms even using the Needle Cannon and Shadow Blade against Mega Man and Rush. When he is defeated, he remarks he should've stuck with the Mega Buster, making a reference to the boss fight in Mega Man 3 where Copy Robot and his Holographs use just the Mega Buster and no other weapons.
