Chips are items that can be obtained and equipped in Mega Man X8. They are similar to the equippable Parts from the earlier Mega Man X games. Contrary to past games, Chips are developed from Rare Metals which are found in the stages. After doing the stage and heading to the lab, they can be bought as parts.

Weapon Charge 10 / 9 Make Weapon Tank. Refills Weapon Tank.
Prickle Barrier 200 / 180 Available by default. Protects character from spikes only once. Leaves character with only 1 HP left.
Spare Energy 250 / 225 Available by default. Restores partial life when HP has been depleted. Does not protect against insta-kill traps (spikes, bottomless pits, etc.).
??? (Alia Buster) 40000 / 36000 New Game + (Normal and Hard). Makes Alia a playable character.
??? (Layer Rapier) 40000 / 36000 New Game + (Normal and Hard). Makes Layer a playable character.

Life Tank 1000 / 900 Rare Metals in Pitch Black and Troia Base. Permanent Tank that stores extra life energy. Replaces the Life Bottle if available.
Weapon Tank 500 / 450 Rare Metal in Inferno. Permanent Tank that stores extra weapon energy. Replaces the Weapon Bottle if available.
Hyper AT 1500 / 1350 Available by default. More energy is filled inside Attack Gauge for attacks and refills.
Escape Boost 1000 / 900 Available by default. Escape Capture moves faster. Escape from enemies easier.
Metal Generator 5000 / 4500 Rare Metal in Troia Base. Gain Metals by running. (Approximately 24 Metals per 6-8 steps of running)
Metal Discount 5000 / NA Rare Metal in Metal Valley. 10% discount on chip redemption cost.
Chip Delete 0 / 0 Available by default. Removes Weapon and/or Life Tanks and Bottles. Does not refund metals.

Notes

In order to play as any Navigator, the player must start a new game plus (created upon finishing the game) and finish the intro stage before the navigator can be bought (assuming the previous game was cleared in Normal or Hard Mode). Furthermore, only one of three is immediately available for purchase, depending on which navigator was used the most times in the previous game. The other two will become available when used enough times. The need for completing the game first can also be bypassed by using a secret code at the title screen allowing the navigator connected to that code to be ready for purchase..
