m (Personally. I like to think it's called "Buster Shot" because it fires the same shots as a buster, the weapon's actual name being unknown. But as there are no sources noting something like that...)

This article is about Zero's weapon in the Mega Man Zero series. For other uses, see Buster.

The Buster Shot (バスターショット Basutā Shotto) is a recurring weapon in the Mega Man franchise. It is a small firearm that can charge and fire energy shots, similar to the Mega Buster or X-Buster. Zero wields one in the Mega Man Zero series, and Grey wields one in Mega Man ZX Advent.

Mega Man Zero

Milan fired bullets from a handgun to repel Neo Arcadian troops in the Forgotten Laboratory. Once Zero was awoken, he took the fallen Milan's gun to make the Buster Shot to defend himself and Ciel.[1] Concept art and illustrations show that Zero loads the Z-Saber into the Buster Shot as a power cell, granting the weapon energy bullets and eventually the ability to fire Charge Shots. It is mounted onto Zero's back when not used.

In this game, Zero must use the Buster Shot extensively to earn skill points and access its most powerful abilities, including its Charge Shot. The Buster Shot's skill level will not increase until the Z-Saber is obtained.

Image Level Upgrade Description

4 shots
★2 200 hits Zero can fire 4 shots at a time.
Level 2
★3 400 hits Zero can charge the Buster Shot up to Lv. 2.
MMZCharge1Main
★4 1200 hits The Buster Shot charges faster.

The Buster Shot can also be equipped with Element Chips obtained from certain bosses, adding some variety to Zero's long-range arsenal. They replace the normal Lv. 2 Charge Shot.

Flame Shot
Flame Chip Guard Orotic Ignites enemies on hit, causing them to slowly lose health for a while.
Ice Shot
Ice Chip Blizzack Staggroff Freezes enemies on hit, halting their movement and leaving them open to attack.

Mega Man Zero 2

Zero still has to earn skill points to level up his Buster Shot, but there are only three skill levels, with the four bullets upgrade being removed, although Zero can still fire four bullets at a time using X Form. Similar to the first game, the skill level will not increase during the first mission in the Sand Wilderness, only after Zero is restored in the New Resistance Base.

Level Upgrade Description
★1 - Zero can fire the standard three shots at a time and charge the buster by one level.
★2 200 hits Zero can charge the Buster Shot up to Lv. 2.
★3 600 hits The Buster Shot charges faster.

The Element Chips from the previous game return, with the addition that Zero can obtain EX Skills from bosses to further alter their properties.

Mega Man Zero 3

Starting in Mega Man Zero 3, Zero no longer needs to earn skill points to level up his Buster Shot, as he starts off with all his base abilities from the previous game. This is also the last game where the Element Chips are used. In Mega Man Zero 3, Zero can fire four bullets using the Hacker Cyber-elf Shuthas. It is also possible to modify the appearance of Buster Shot's bullets with Mod Cards.
